An unexpectedly hard shot by Luciano Aimar in the 10th minute of play forced Deportivo Deroense's goalkeeper Candido Izotz to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Rolando Schiavi hit a great freekick 12 minutes into the match. Candido Izotz showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Ingvar Biörling in the 13th minute of the match. The Deportivo Deroense fans' excitement grew in the 15th match minute when Deportivo Deroense's Waldir Baptista looked to have a clear shot with the ball near the goal. After a defensive mix-up in Rio Cuarto FC's zone, Waldir Baptista stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Prospero Ursino came out of the goal and Waldir Baptista tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. In the 47th minute, Eustaquio Abad hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. The fans had the chance to grab some refreshments as the whistle went for half-time. The score stood at 2-2 after a close first half.

Luciano Aimar received a nice pass, split the defenders, and ran untouched towards the goal. Candido Izotz came out and tried to block the shot, but Luciano Aimar slotted it home off the left post making it 2-4 in the 86th minute. Waldir Baptista fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 90th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Prospero Ursino having to interfere. 95 minutes into the match, Deportivo Deroense's goalkeeper Candido Izotz had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Gonzalo Matia. Rio Cuarto FC's players went to the stands to thank the travelling support. The fan's backing had helped spurr the team on to a fine performance that won them the match.
