A collision led to GKS Witosa getting a freekick after 4 minutes play. Gerald Hüsken hit a great ball. The corner went over the outstretched arms of Fenerbahce1907's goalie and right to Heinrich Dietz. He fired away a shot at goal, but the shot had too much spin, and it went just outside the goal. Fenerbahce1907's manager breathed a sigh of relief on the sidelines as his team had managed to escape an almost certain goal. The audience thought a goal was coming when Marek Hirsch got free with Reinhard Lamprecht in the 10th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. After 11 played minutes Fenerbahce1907 got a freekick which was hit by Jorge Arce. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Christoph Zachariassen in the 19th minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Luciano Aurken prevented the ball from getting in the gole. In the 20th match minute, GKS Witosa was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Till Schröder to maneuver through the defense. Luciano Aurken made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Christoph Zachariassen in the 20th minute of play. In the 30th minute the ball was on its way in behind GKS Witosa's goalkeeper Luciano Aurken, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. An unexpectedly hard shot by Ole Lammertz in the 32nd minute of play forced Fenerbahce1907's goalkeeper Reinhard Lamprecht to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. 34 minutes into the match, Fenerbahce1907's goal looked a bit too open when Gerald Hüsken came free, but Reinhard Lamprecht reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Ciccio Bozzelli took the ball and in the 36 minute, shot a rapid shot to the right of a surprised Luciano Aurken. Luciano Aurken dived to the right, and did manage to get a hand on the shot, but it still went into the right corner making it 1-1. If Till Schröder had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 45th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. After a very even first half the match was still tied. The players went to their respective dressing rooms to discuss the tactics for the second half.

When the second half was about to start, both teams quickly lined up and Marek Hirsch made a kick off. An unexpectedly hard shot by Ciccio Bozzelli in the 53rd minute of play forced GKS Witosa's goalkeeper Luciano Aurken to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Wigalf Hofmann received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 55th minute. Luciano Aurken tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Till Schröder charged in rather forcefully in the 58th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Till Schröder the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. The supporters of Fenerbahce1907 booed when GKS Witosa was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 58 match minutes in a wonderful position. Till Schröder didn't get a good kick on the ball. An unexpectedly hard shot by William Anselm in the 63rd minute of play forced GKS Witosa's goalkeeper Luciano Aurken to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Reinhard Lamprecht showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Gerald Hüsken in the 71st minute of the match. When Fenerbahce1907's William Anselm in the 72nd minute got a chance for a shot 72nd didn't hesitate and placed the ball to the right of the goalie. A beautiful save bye GKS Witosa's goalie prevented a goal. Hermann Bracht kicked well hit freekick during the 95th minute of the match. Luciano Aurken made an important save on a dangerous shot by Christoph Zachariassen in the 96th minute. When the final whistle was heard the away supporters stood up and showed their joy. Fenerbahce1907 had managed to secure a win in what was a close match throughout.
