Jorge Tolino was slow to take the kick. During this time Universitario de Deportes's players had a chance to rest. Valentin Mercurio showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Juan Maidana, who was totally free with the ball in the 40th minute. Adrian Barrionuevo made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Jorge Tolino in the 45th minute of play. 47 minutes into the match, Los Pasteros Verdes's goal looked a bit too open when Jorge Tolino came free, but Adrian Barrionuevo reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Even after changing tactics the home team jogged off the field with a 0-1 deficit. They would have to work harder if they wanted to turn things around in the second half.

After 68 played minutes Universitario de Deportes got a freekick which was hit by Jorge Tolino. In the 70th minute, Universitario de Deportes's Edgard Luar seemed to kick out at an opponent. The referee saw this and, surprisingly, showed Edgard Luar the red card, dismissing him from the pitch. The coaching staff of Universitario de Deportes protested bitterly, but the referee would have none of it, and Edgard Luar had no choice but to slowly walk off the pitch. In a very dangerous position, a player in Universitario de Deportes fell when an opponent tried to get the ball from him in the 69th minute. Penalty! In the 73rd minute there was a penalty for Los Pasteros Verdes. Ruben Caton stepped forward and shot the ball to the right of a diving Valentin Mercurio. 0-5.
