The audience thought a goal was coming when Ricardo Gutxi got free with Ernesto Monge in the 5th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. PUNTARENENSE F.C's Virgilio Rojas played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Luis Martinez in the 6th minute of play. After 11 minutes of play, CS La Libertad's Marco Ureña made it 0-1 when he simply outclassed the defender marking him and hit a curling shot into the right side of the net. Virgilio Rojas was left in no man's land by his defense there! After 19 minutes, Mikael Garcia mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the PUNTARENENSE F.C and the CS La Libertad players grew even worse after the yellow card. Virgilio Rojas took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Marco Ureña, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Julian Gaueko's shot straight on target was not completely harmless. The ball had pretty good speed, but Ernesto Monge firmly grabbed it by the left post. PUNTARENENSE F.C were awarded a corner in the 29th minute after CS La Libertad's defender lost control of the ball, allowing it to roll out over the line. Macho Madrigal took the corner. The corner led PUNTARENENSE F.C's Macho Madrigal to fire away a dangerous shot which Ernesto Monge despite some difficulties managed to get hold on the ball. After 32 minutes, Omar Guevara mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the CS La Libertad and the PUNTARENENSE F.C players grew even worse after the yellow card. After a rather tough play, CS La Libertad's Omar Guevara got a free kick in the 32nd minute. After some careless play in the PUNTARENENSE F.C defense, Luis Martinez kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Virgilio Rojas. The PUNTARENENSE F.C fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Virgilio Rojas should have stopped the shot. Ernesto Monge showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Macho Madrigal, who was totally free with the ball in the 42nd minute. Ernesto Monge made a fantastic save in the 43rd minute, when Vinicio Medina sent off a good shot on target. Virgilio Rojas took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Agustin Barrantes, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Even after changing tactics the home team jogged off the field with a 1-2 deficit. They would have to work harder if they wanted to turn things around in the second half.

Felix Stenqvist took a chance and fired a shot far from the goal in the 78th minute, but it turned out to be a dangerous situation for Ernesto Monge. CS La Libertad's goalkeeper really had to stretch himself to stop the ball from crossing the goal line. An unexpectedly hard shot by Leonel Ortiz in the 88th minute of play forced CS La Libertad's goalkeeper Ernesto Monge to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. 91 minutes into the match, PUNTARENENSE F.C's goal looked a bit too open when Gerardo Millot came free, but Virgilio Rojas reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Virgilio Rojas came out of the goal in the 92nd minute to try and stop a shot by CS La Libertad's Miguel Volio. But to his dismay, Miguel Volio quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 1-3.
