In the 9th minute André Luís Best shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Drąsutis Gailius saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. 16 minutes into the match, Atlético Mineiro's goalkeeper Fynn John had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Frank Pagliuca. Fynn John dived to the right, and did manage to get a hand on the shot, but it still went into the right corner making it 2-0. The supporters of Bagni booed when Atlético Mineiro was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 62 match minutes in a wonderful position. Aldo Rivera scored 3-2 in the 98th match minute with a shot that went into the goal to the right of Drąsutis Gailius, who was just a little too slow in reacting to the shot.
