Leonides Valentine was in the perfect position, and the defense had done a good job marking him, but Zé Paulo da Silva showcased his skills and made a perfect shot to score 3-0 in the 33 minute of play. The audience thought a goal was coming when Wilhelm Nienhaus got free with Leonides Valentine in the 37th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. The Argentino de Banfield fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Leonides Valentine should have stopped the shot. Argentino de Banfield's Raimundo Castulo was substituted for Victorio Bemabe. In the 72nd minute Wilhelm Nienhaus shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Leonides Valentine saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Kristian Oswald received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 93rd minute. Leonides Valentine tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. The referee blew his whistle, and the match came to a close. The players exchanged shirts and headed down the tunnel. The Hertha 1969 fans cheered their team off the field, for while Argentino de Banfield had put up a good fight, they were unable to come out of the game with any points to show for their effort.
