Estudiantes de América's Marcos Ranolfo played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Ronnie Odell in the 15th minute of play. José Luis Chilavert was a little too slow when Kraig Fred got a fine hit on the ball which went right into the goal in the 19th minute. The score was now 1-1. If Kraig Fred had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 23rd minute. The ball went over the crossbar instead. José Luis Chilavert showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Kraig Fred, who was totally free with the ball in the 23rd minute. Flavio Iraunkor sent away a hard shot on goal in the 28th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. In the 30th minute Bautista Marcó shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Marcos Ranolfo saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. When the second half was about to start, both teams quickly lined up and Pan Lin Zhen made a kick off. 60 minutes into the match, CRUZ DEL SUR's goal looked a bit too open when Concetto Trasatti came free, but José Luis Chilavert reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line.
