Shannon Marquez didn't have a chance when a screaming shot from Porter Ochoa went, in the 8th minute, to the upper right corner, 1-0 was the resulting score. After 11 played minutes Charlotte FC got a freekick which was hit by Sid Winn. Shannon Marquez made a fantastic save in the 16th minute, when Chris Sito sent off a good shot on target. Sid Winn's late challenge caught a Kentucky Mustangs's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Sid Winn helped the player get up and apologised. Sid Winn hit a great freekick 20 minutes into the match. Chris Sito fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 22nd minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Shannon Marquez having to interfere. Kentucky Mustangs's Porter Ochoa suffered a concussion after 23 minutes and had to leave the field. After 23 minutes, Del Sheppard mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Charlotte FC and the Kentucky Mustangs players grew even worse after the yellow card. Kentucky Mustangs's Andre Reagan was substituted for Porter Ochoa. After 25 played minutes Charlotte FC got a freekick which was hit by Del Sheppard. In the 33rd minute, Santos Wilkes hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. 45 minutes into the match, Charlotte FC's goal looked a bit too open when Cyrus Mabry came free, but Shannon Marquez reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. In the 47th minute, Kentucky Mustangs's Andre Reagan ran free of his marker and smoothly shot the ball into the goal behind Shannon Marquez. Shannon Marquez yelled at his defense, as they had left him out to dry. 2-0. Af the end of the first half the score was 2-0. The first half had gone as expected for the home team.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Ari Currie stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. If Moses Suarez had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 59th minute. The ball went over the crossbar instead. Kentucky Mustangs made a substitution. Pete Maxwell replaced Daryl Shaver. After having played for 63 minutes, Chris Sito managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Kentucky Mustangs's supporters crossed their fingers, but Chris Sito was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. An unexpectedly hard shot by Andre Reagan in the 65th minute of play forced Charlotte FC's goalkeeper Shannon Marquez to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. In the 68th match minute, Charlotte FC was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Christian Carney to maneuver through the defense. An unexpectedly hard shot by Cyrus Mabry in the 69th minute of play forced Charlotte FC's goalkeeper Shannon Marquez to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. 72 minutes into the match, Kentucky Mustangs's goal looked a bit too open when Will Yeats came free, but Ramon Ingram reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. After a rather tough play, Kentucky Mustangs's Rudolf McLaughlin got a free kick in the 74th minute. Kentucky Mustangs's Ramon Ingram proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 79th minute of the match, managed to save Kentucky Mustangs from getting a goal against them. In the 82nd minute Cyrus Mabry shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Shannon Marquez saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Avery Cottrell might have been able to make a better finish in the 87th minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Shannon Marquez. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Avery Cottrell ran back to his position shaking his head. When Chris Sito came up free with the goalie in the 94th minute, the Kentucky Mustangs fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Chris Sito couldn't finish the play. Charlotte FC's Shannon Marquez played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Chris Sito in the 96th minute of play. Kentucky Mustangs were really happy, having secured the victory after a very even contest. They thanked the players of Charlotte FC for a fine match.
