Adelino Lopes could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 12th minute of the match, but Joel Maciel made a huge save. In the 14th minute of the match, Adelino Lopes got a very nice opportunity to score, but Joel Maciel was well-placed and pushed the ball away from the goal at the left post. 16 minutes into the match, Garanhão do SUL's goalkeeper Joel Maciel had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Adolfo Pires. Aparício Taborda could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 19th minute of the match, but Joel Maciel made a huge save. Joel Maciel made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 1-1. In the 43rd minute, Gremio Viana's Adelino Lopes ran free of his marker and smoothly shot the ball into the goal behind Joel Maciel. Joel Maciel yelled at his defense, as they had left him out to dry. 2-1. No-one was surprised that the home team were leading 2-1 at half-time.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Cássio Madeira to make the kick off. Ivo Cerqueira made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Cássio Madeira in the 51st minute of play. Ivo Cerqueira showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Miguel Belo in the 54th minute of the match. 61 minutes into the match, Garanhão do SUL's goal looked a bit too open when Porfírio Cortez came free, but Joel Maciel reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Julião Valverde kicked well hit freekick during the 61st minute of the match. In the 66th minute, Gentil Fontoura hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. In the 73rdth minute of the game Porfírio Cortez who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but Garanhão do SUL's Joel Maciel was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. After a rather tough play, Gremio Viana's Hermenegildo Palha got a free kick in the 75th minute. Joel Maciel took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Adelino Lopes, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. In the 83rd minute of the match Porfírio Cortez sent off a long shot with destination to the right of the goalkeeper, but Joel Maciel skillfully saved the ball. Joel Maciel showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Porfírio Cortez in the 86th minute of the match. The supporters of Gremio Viana booed when Garanhão do SUL was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 86 match minutes in a wonderful position. Filinto Coelho didn't get a good kick on the ball. Julião Valverde took a chance and fired a shot far from the goal in the 95th minute, but it turned out to be a dangerous situation for Ivo Cerqueira. Gremio Viana's goalkeeper really had to stretch himself to stop the ball from crossing the goal line. It was no surprise that this one had ended in a win for the home team. Gremio Viana had played much better football throughout.
