With an all-out effort, Lisburn Distillery F.C.'s Brigid Rutherford threw himself towards the right post 33 minutes into the match and grabbed hold of the ball from Derek Findley, which otherwise would have been placed in the net. Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Eddie Wittingham to make the kick off. Lisburn Distillery F.C.'s Juvenal Moreira played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Hewney Kirby in the 54th minute of play. Brigid Rutherford came out of the goal and Christopher Shuttleworth tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Hewney Kirby could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 77th minute of the match, but Juvenal Moreira made a huge save. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Derek Findley in the 80th minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Brigid Rutherford prevented the ball from getting in the gole. Brigid Rutherford made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Derek Findley in the 84th minute of play. The corner went over the outstretched arms of St. James Gate F.C.'s goalie and right to Christopher Shuttleworth. He fired away a shot at goal, but the shot had too much spin, and it went just outside the goal. St. James Gate F.C.'s manager breathed a sigh of relief on the sidelines as his team had managed to escape an almost certain goal. Juvenal Moreira showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Barhart Costello, who was totally free with the ball in the 88th minute. In the 94th match minute, Lisburn Distillery F.C. was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Tommy Boyce to maneuver through the defense. Lisburn Distillery F.C.'s fans were exulted and cheered after their team won in a match that could easily have gone the other way.
