In the 8th minute Kléber Cavalcante shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Juan Velloso saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. São Paulo F.C.'s attentive Dé Severo managed to snatch the ball when Sérgio Freire made a throw-in in the 11th minute of the game. After some fancy dribbling in the 12th minute, Dé Severo managed to get in a good position for a shot. São Paulo F.C.'s supporters rose to their feet, but Dé Severo was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Juan Velloso breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. 15 minutes into the match, Kléber Cavalcante had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of Juan Velloso. Oranil's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Kléber Cavalcante was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 0-2. A sloppy throw-in by Sérgio Freire in the 18th minute of the game went astray and was snapped up by São Paulo F.C.'s Hernani Vidal. When Kléber Cavalcante came up free with the goalie in the 20th minute, the São Paulo F.C. fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Kléber Cavalcante couldn't finish the play. In the 21st match minute, São Paulo F.C. was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Buba Seco to maneuver through the defense. Juan Velloso made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Kléber Cavalcante in the 28th minute of play. With 30 minutes on the clock, Giovani Viana commited a dangerous tackle. The referee had no choice but to show him the red card. In a very dangerous position, a player in Oranil fell when an opponent tried to get the ball from him in the 30th minute. Penalty! If Carlos Fernando Proença had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 33rd minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. In the 40th minute, Buba Seco hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. An unexpectedly hard shot by Kléber Saldanha in the 41st minute of play forced São Paulo F.C.'s goalkeeper Tiago Godoi to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Kléber Cavalcante scored 0-3 in the 43rd match minute with a shot that went into the goal to the right of Juan Velloso, who was just a little too slow in reacting to the shot. Kléber Cavalcante fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 47th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Juan Velloso having to interfere. Disappointed in the 0-3 score, the home team went to the dressing room to adjust tactics for the second half.

Kléber Cavalcante's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Juan Velloso read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 55th minute of play. Kléber Cavalcante sent away a hard shot on goal in the 58th minute, but the ball hit the crossbar and went out. A very good chance for a goal. 62 minutes into the match, Oranil's goal looked a bit too open when Kléber Cavalcante came free, but Juan Velloso reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. In the 63rd minute of the match São Paulo F.C. got a corner. Oranil's goalie ran out to the linesman to protest the call, but the linesman resolutely pointed his flag at the cornerflag. Dé Severo ran over to the corner to take the kick. Hílton Cosme tried in the 64th minute to hit away a contribution but miss-kicked the ball which ended up in his own goal and left an unhappy Juan Velloso a with quite unnecessary self made goal. Result 0-4. São Paulo F.C. made a substitution. Wanderson Melo replaced Buba Seco. São Paulo F.C.'s Edmílson Lago was substituted for Vito Travassos. Sérgio Freire made in the 73rd minute of the game a quick throw-in and Kléber Saldanha immediately put the ball in play. A collision led to São Paulo F.C. getting a freekick after 75 minutes play. Dé Severo hit a great ball. 79 minutes into the match, Oranil's goalkeeper Juan Velloso had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Kléber Cavalcante. Juan Velloso made an important save on a dangerous shot by Dé Severo in the 83rd minute. Kléber Cavalcante succeeded to score despite a near miss that spronge from right pole into the goal to 0-5 in the 85th playminute. Kléber Cavalcante scored 0-6 in the 88th match minute with a shot that went into the goal to the right of Juan Velloso, who was just a little too slow in reacting to the shot. After a rather tough play, Oranil's Sérgio Freire got a free kick in the 93rd minute. After some careless play in the Oranil defense, Kléber Cavalcante kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Juan Velloso. The Oranil fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Juan Velloso should have stopped the shot. When the match was over São Paulo F.C. could go home with a victory in their luggage, having controlled the game far better than Oranil throughout the match.
