Montevideo's Oleg Timofeev played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Marcel Abreu in the 6th minute of play. In the 9th minute Jano Cavalcante shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Fausto Ferraz saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Oleg Timofeev took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Marcel Abreu, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. 12 minutes into the match, S.E.R. Caxias do Sul's goalkeeper Fausto Ferraz had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Leandro Brito. Fausto Ferraz didn't have a chance when a screaming shot from Jano Cavalcante went, in the 13th minute, to the upper right corner, 1-0 was the resulting score. The supporters of S.E.R. Caxias do Sul booed when Montevideo was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 15 match minutes in a wonderful position. Celsinho de Almeida didn't get a good kick on the ball. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Marcel Abreu in the 16th minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Oleg Timofeev prevented the ball from getting in the gole. Oleg Timofeev took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Kauã Vander, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. 26 minutes into the match, Kauã Vander had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of Oleg Timofeev. Montevideo's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Kauã Vander was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 1-1. Oleg Timofeev made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Kauã Vander in the 34th minute of play. In the 37th match minute, Montevideo was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Celsinho de Almeida to maneuver through the defense. Kauã Vander hit a great freekick 39 minutes into the match. Kauã Vander scored 1-2 in the 45th match minute with a shot that went into the goal to the right of Oleg Timofeev, who was just a little too slow in reacting to the shot. Even after changing tactics the home team jogged off the field with a 1-2 deficit. They would have to work harder if they wanted to turn things around in the second half.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Marcel Abreu stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. Ramiro de Lima hit a great freekick 55 minutes into the match. Mathias dos Santos recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 70th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. Fausto Ferraz took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Jano Cavalcante, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. In the 82nd minute the ball was on its way in behind S.E.R. Caxias do Sul's goalkeeper Fausto Ferraz, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar.
