The referee showed Baldeón Bretal the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. A collision led to Astillero del Guayas getting a freekick after 5 minutes play. Baldeón Bretal hit a great ball. After 6 played minutes, Club Puerto Quito's Marcelo Noceda shot from a long distance, and at first it looked like the ball was going into the goal, but the goalkeeper Bohórquez Doblas came through and got his fingers on the ball before it flew over the goal line. He then quickly gripped the ball tighter before the forwards in Club Puerto Quito reached it. The supporters of Astillero del Guayas booed when Club Puerto Quito was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 8 match minutes in a wonderful position. Rolando Devalla didn't get a good kick on the ball. Bohórquez Doblas made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Marcelo Noceda in the 12th minute of play. With 14 minutes on the clock, Hakkı Deniz Bedi commited a dangerous tackle. Rolando Devalla scored 0-2 in the 31st match minute with a shot that went into the goal to the right of Bohórquez Doblas, who was just a little too slow in reacting to the shot. Rolando Devalla sent away a hard shot on goal in the 34th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Cevallos Provencio hit a great freekick 35 minutes into the match. Astillero del Guayas's Xofre Campomanes got a good chance for a goal in the 40th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. The audience was convinced that Ulizes Sola's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Johnny Conill was relentless in the 42nd minute of the game. In the 44th minute Robin Cabero shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Bohórquez Doblas saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line.

Zadornin Sereno's late challenge caught a Astillero del Guayas's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Zadornin Sereno helped the player get up and apologised. Ulizes Sola blasted a shot towards the goal in the 88th minute, but the shot hit the top of the crossbar and went out without Johnny Conill having to make a save. Bohórquez Doblas made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Rolando Devalla in the 97th minute of play. Chants of Club Puerto Quito echoed around the stadium as the match drew to a close. Supporters and players were both delighted with the win, as Astillero del Guayas had held the ball for most of the match.
