The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. 3 minutes into the match, Sporting de Gijón's goalkeeper Sergio Romero had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Darman Ardiansyah. An unexpectedly hard shot by Angel Di Maria in the 5th minute of play forced Japy Man's goalkeeper Osvaldo Bixintxo to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. In the 7th minute, Angel Di Maria made a precise shot to the right of Osvaldo Bixintxo. Japy Man's defense was at fault, and the scoreboard reflected the new score, 0-1. Angel Di Maria received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 11th minute. Osvaldo Bixintxo tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. 13 minutes into the match, Japy Man's Darman Ardiansyah sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Sergio Romero narrowly saved just below the crossbar. Angel Di Maria might have been able to make a better finish in the 15th minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Osvaldo Bixintxo. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Angel Di Maria ran back to his position shaking his head. Osvaldo Bixintxo showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Angel Di Maria in the 15th minute of the match. After a rather tough play, Sporting de Gijón's Celestino Illart got a free kick in the 17th minute. Angelino Brion sent away a hard shot on goal in the 19th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. In the 23rd match minute, Japy Man was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Darman Ardiansyah to maneuver through the defense. 27 minutes into the game, Carolo Ovando threw the ball into play from the sideline. Japy Man's Fausto Berenguer quickly snatched the ball and retained possesion. Angel Di Maria's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Osvaldo Bixintxo read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 28th minute of play. Angelino Brion hit a great freekick 33 minutes into the match. Darman Ardiansyah recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 39th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. If Melchor Rosio had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 42nd minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Angelino Brion kicked well hit freekick during the 44th minute of the match.

Sporting de Gijón's Marcos-Alberto Rojo was substituted for Melchor Rosio. Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Celestino Illart to make the kick off. Angelino Brion received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 60th minute. Sergio Romero tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. With a little luck, Japy Man's Osvaldo Bixintxo got control of the ball when Celestino Illart tried to sneak it across the goal line. After 69 minutes, Darman Ardiansyah made it 1-2 with a short kick to the right side. Sporting de Gijón's Sergio Romero tried to save the shot but he was too slow in reacting to the shot. When Darman Ardiansyah came up free with the goalie in the 73rd minute, the Japy Man fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Darman Ardiansyah couldn't finish the play. Sergio Romero took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Darman Ardiansyah, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Celestino Illart sent away a hard shot on goal in the 81st minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Celestino Illart could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 85th minute of the match, but Osvaldo Bixintxo made a huge save. Darman Ardiansyah received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 87th minute. Sergio Romero tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Celestino Illart sent away a hard shot on goal in the 91st minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Sporting de Gijón were delighted with the way they had won the match. They had held their defensive line well and made the most of their chances, to claim a victory over Japy Man's much stronger midfield.
