Vitinho Fontes came out of the goal and Robert Thorne tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. The supporters of Família Ressaca MZ booed when Clapham Comets F.C. was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 22 match minutes in a wonderful position. Sly Percival didn't get a good kick on the ball. Tales Salles scored 1-1 in the 25th match minute with a shot that went into the goal to the right of Conan Shields, who was just a little too slow in reacting to the shot. Silvério Abreu hit a great freekick 43 minutes into the match. Vitinho Fontes took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Leigh Case, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. After the first half the score was level. The break gave the players a chance to catch their breath, whilst the managers went over the tactics with them again.

Vitinho Fontes made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Leigh Case in the 53rd minute of play. In the 55th match minute, Família Ressaca MZ was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Anísio Sampaio to maneuver through the defense. Vitinho Fontes stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Kevin Jowsey's shot from short distance in the 59th minute.
