An unexpectedly hard shot by Gonzalo Higuaín in the 40th minute of play forced Doffes Damer's goalkeeper Eric Månsson to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Manchester United F.C.'s attentive Minko Gurbalov managed to snatch the ball when Jörn Sandwall made a throw-in in the 46th minute of the game. When the referee blew for the end of the half the home team players were clearly happier, as they went in to the break leading 1-0.
