Manuel Esteves made a fantastic save in the 3rd minute, when Barney Thomson sent off a good shot on target. 3 minutes into the game, Hildeberto Nóbrega was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. SLB TELHA's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Clube Audax Metropolitano the free kick. The supporters of Clube Audax Metropolitano booed when SLB TELHA was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 3 match minutes in a wonderful position. Hildeberto Nóbrega didn't get a good kick on the ball. An unexpectedly hard shot by Barney Thomson in the 12th minute of play forced SLB TELHA's goalkeeper Manuel Esteves to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Zeca Siqueira's shot when he came free in front of the goal in the 14thth minute, Manuel Esteves skillfully showed off with a save to what seemed to be an obvious goal. Manuel Esteves showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Barney Thomson in the 16th minute of the match. The audience was convinced that Edgard Mineiro's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Manuel Esteves was relentless in the 19th minute of the game. When the match had gone on for 21 minutes, Zeca Siqueira put it in 1-0 from a short distance just to the right of Manuel Esteves. In the 28th match minute, SLB TELHA was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Cesário Laureano to maneuver through the defense. Acácio Pernambucano was probably a little too eager to shoot when he, in the 28th played minute, shot the ball from way out. The shot was hard, but the ball flew wide of the goal. Zeca Siqueira who was well placed in front of the goal fired away a dangerous shot that in the 39thth minute tested the skills of Manuel Esteves when he managed to save the team from getting behind. 42 minutes into the game, SLB TELHA's Avelino Madruga nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. Pedro Rangel made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 2-1. When the referee blew for the end of the half the home team players were clearly happier, as they went in to the break leading 2-1.
The hometeam waved at the audience when it was time for Avelino Madruga to strike the kick off in the second half. In the 51st minute, Cesário Laureano hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. After 52 played minutes, Clube Audax Metropolitano's Acácio Pernambucano shot from a long distance, and at first it looked like the ball was going into the goal, but the goalkeeper Manuel Esteves came through and got his fingers on the ball before it flew over the goal line. He then quickly gripped the ball tighter before the forwards in Clube Audax Metropolitano reached it. Manuel Esteves took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Barney Thomson, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Joaquim Espinosa hit a great freekick 59 minutes into the match. Zeca Siqueira charged in rather forcefully in the 60th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Zeca Siqueira the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. After 60 played minutes Clube Audax Metropolitano got a freekick which was hit by Zeca Siqueira. Bruno Vinhas was astounded when the referee showed him the red card after a seemingly innocent challenge, 62 minutes into the match. In the 61st minute, one of Clube Audax Metropolitano:s players had the ball in front of the goal but got pushed and fell. The referee felt it was an obvious case and blew a penalty for Clube Audax Metropolitano. The goalkeeper, Pedro Rangel, was totally fooled by SLB TELHA's Hildeberto Nóbrega, who 64 minutes into the game made a penalty shot that went in on the goalkeeper's left side. Pedro Rangel made a fantastic save in the 69th minute, when Avelino Madruga sent off a good shot on target. Manuel Esteves made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Zeca Siqueira in the 77th minute of play. If Zeca Siqueira had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 81st minute. The ball went over the crossbar instead. 86 minutes into the match, SLB TELHA's goal looked a bit too open when Barney Thomson came free, but Manuel Esteves reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. In the 89th minute, Avelino Madruga ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Pedro Rangel was frozen by the shot and now it was 2-3. 95 minutes into the match, Barney Thomson had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of Manuel Esteves. SLB TELHA's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Barney Thomson was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 3-3.
