The audience thought a goal was coming when John Carew got free with Zoran Simović in the 14th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. Victoriano Iratzeder's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Manfred Fribäck read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 15th minute of play. After 21 played minutes Norrlands Athen got a freekick which was hit by Eddie Trulsson. Joel Gamus recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 24th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. 26 minutes into the match, Norrlands Athen's goal looked a bit too open when Isidoro Isidor came free, but Manfred Fribäck reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. In the 27thth minute of the game Victoriano Iratzeder who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but Norrlands Athen's Manfred Fribäck was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball.
