The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. Gatis Jurciņš was extremely unlucky when he, in the 3rd minute, took a shot that hit the right post and went out. The supporters of Colon de Sta Fe booed when Juan Sebastian Veron was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 3 match minutes in a wonderful position. Angel Hanot didn't get a good kick on the ball. Colon de Sta Fe's Lisandro Florin got a good chance for a goal in the 9th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Christian Firme showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Lisandro Florin in the 10th minute of the match. 13 minutes into the match, Loco Fumarola notched a goal, 2-0, to the right of Juan Sebastian Veron's Christian Firme. Christian Firme was clearly disgusted with the effort of the defense and let the defenders know about it. Christian Firme made an important save on a dangerous shot by Lisandro Florin in the 17th minute. In the 19th minute Amado Eguerdi shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Florentino Jaen saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Gatis Jurciņš received a nice pass, split the defenders, and ran untouched towards the goal. Christian Firme came out and tried to block the shot, but Gatis Jurciņš slotted it home off the left post making it 3-0 in the 22nd minute. A collision led to Juan Sebastian Veron getting a freekick after 26 minutes play. Amado Eguerdi hit a great ball. 28 minutes into the match, Juan Sebastian Veron's goalkeeper Christian Firme had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Loco Fumarola. After having played for 31 minutes, Lisandro Florin managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Colon de Sta Fe's supporters crossed their fingers, but Lisandro Florin was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Christian Firme made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Gatis Jurciņš in the 33rd minute of play. Lisandro Florin fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 34th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Christian Firme having to interfere. In the 36th minute Lisandro Florin shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Christian Firme saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Domingo Rumaldo struck a weak shot in the 37th minute. Christian Firme didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Colon de Sta Fe. Juan Sebastian Veron's defense didn't have a chance, in the 39th minute, when Gatis Jurciņš scored to the left of an out of position Christian Firme, making the score, 4-0. Christian Firme showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Alexandre Hach in the 42nd minute of the match. Juan Sebastian Veron's Christian Firme proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 43rd minute of the match, managed to save Juan Sebastian Veron from getting a goal against them. Anacleto Oidor received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 47th minute. Christian Firme tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. No-one was surprised that the home team were leading 4-0 at half-time.
Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Marcial Felo to make the kick off. An unexpectedly hard shot by Lisandro Florin in the 56th minute of play forced Juan Sebastian Veron's goalkeeper Christian Firme to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Christian Firme made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Lisandro Florin in the 57th minute of play. A collision led to Colon de Sta Fe getting a freekick after 58 minutes play. Gatis Jurciņš hit a great ball. The crowd rose to their feet as Juan Sebastian Veron's Marcial Felo slotted home a wonderful shot that went in to the left of Florentino Jaen. That made the score 4-1 after 60 minutes of play. In the 64th minute the ball was on its way in behind Juan Sebastian Veron's goalkeeper Christian Firme, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. In the 70th minute Gatis Jurciņš shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Christian Firme saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. 71 minutes into the match, Lisandro Florin had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of Christian Firme. Juan Sebastian Veron's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Lisandro Florin was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 6-1. 74 minutes into the match, Juan Sebastian Veron's goal looked a bit too open when Loco Fumarola came free, but Christian Firme reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Lisandro Florin in the 85th minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Christian Firme prevented the ball from getting in the gole. Colon de Sta Fe's Florentino Jaen played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Enzo Firme in the 90th minute of play. In the 95th minute of the match, Marcial Felo tried to roll the ball into the goal by the right post, but Florentino Jaen saw his intentions and got control of the ball before it passed the line. When Domingo Rumaldo fell near the penalty area in the 97th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Colon de Sta Fe's protests and gave Domingo Rumaldo a yellow card for diving instead. Juan Sebastian Veron made a substitution. Anselmo Eder replaced Enzo Firme. In the 98th match minute, Colon de Sta Fe was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Domingo Rumaldo to maneuver through the defense. 100 minutes into the match, Colon de Sta Fe's goalkeeper Florentino Jaen had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Angel Hanot. Colon de Sta Fe walked away with a well-earned victory that was much celebrated by the crowd.
