The audience thought a goal was coming when Olaf Krumbein got free with Marcelinho Tinoco in the 22nd minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. After 32 minutes of play Laranjais's Eugênio Veiga was too eager in his attempt to stop his opponent and brought him down. With that he got his second yellow card and was ordered off the ground. The supporters of Weiß-Rot Frankfurt booed when Laranjais was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 33 match minutes in a wonderful position. Cido Lago might have been able to make a better finish in the 64th minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Birk Bodin. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out.
