Coronel Castro struck a weak shot in the 15th minute. Xove Tijerina didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Spain. Agustín Álvarez could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 17th minute of the match, but Lucas Rallo made a huge save. Xove Tijerina made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Jose Heredia in the 21st minute of play. An unexpectedly hard shot by Jose Heredia in the 24th minute of play forced Uruguay's goalkeeper Xove Tijerina to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Jose Heredia in the 37th minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Xove Tijerina prevented the ball from getting in the gole. Xove Tijerina didn't have a chance when a screaming shot from Jose Heredia went, in the 47th minute, to the upper right corner, 0-1 was the resulting score. After the first half Spain were leading 0-1. They had played with great self confidence throughout the first half and fully deserved their lead.

The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Agustín Álvarez was the one to do the kick off. The supporters of Uruguay booed when Spain was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 53 match minutes in a wonderful position. Sebastián Coira didn't get a good kick on the ball. Lucas Rallo came out of the goal in the 54th minute to try and stop a shot by Uruguay's Agustín Álvarez. But to his dismay, Agustín Álvarez quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 1-1. Uruguay's Xove Tijerina played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Coronel Castro in the 58th minute of play. In the 61stth minute of the game Cordario Vivero who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but Spain's Lucas Rallo was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. After 61 minutes, Cordario Vivero made it 2-1 with a short kick to the right side. Spain's Lucas Rallo tried to save the shot but he was too slow in reacting to the shot. Spain's Coronel Fuster was substituted for Coronel Castro. After some careless play in the Uruguay defense, Jose Heredia kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Xove Tijerina. The Uruguay fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Xove Tijerina should have stopped the shot. Uruguay made a substitution. Gitano Rubiero replaced Primitivo Grau. Spain's Froilan Reyes was substituted for Jose Heredia. 87 minutes into the game, Uruguay's Rosario Cepa nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. Lucas Rallo made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 3-2. The throw-in from Zuberoa Artiaga in the 96th minute of the game was unfortunally taken care of by Spain's Edorta Portillo. The referee blew his whistle, and the match came to a close. The players exchanged shirts and headed down the tunnel. The Uruguay fans cheered their team off the field, for while Spain had put up a good fight, they were unable to come out of the game with any points to show for their effort.
