Göran Björkdal's late challenge caught a Manchester United's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Göran Björkdal helped the player get up and apologised. In the 5th match minute, Rätan IF was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Göran Björkdal to maneuver through the defense. Kenneth Persson hit a great ball. With an all-out effort, Manchester United's Kurt Andreasson threw himself towards the right post 9 minutes into the match and grabbed hold of the ball from Mevlüt Özal, which otherwise would have been placed in the net. Rätan IF's Kurt Andreasson proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 15th minute of the match, managed to save Rätan IF from getting a goal against them. If Peter Säv had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 17th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Niclas Vollander's late challenge caught a Manchester United's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Niclas Vollander didn't get a good kick on the ball. With a little luck, Rätan IF's Kurt Andreasson got control of the ball when Elder do Valle tried to sneak it across the goal line. Peter Säv sent away a hard shot on goal in the 27th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Kurt Andreasson made an important save on a dangerous shot by Stig Örtlund in the 29th minute. 36 minutes into the match, Rätan IF's goalkeeper Kurt Andreasson had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Elder do Valle. The audience thought a goal was coming when Stig Örtlund got free with Kurt Andreasson in the 38th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. 42 minutes into the match, Rätan IF's goal looked a bit too open when Elder do Valle came free, but Kurt Andreasson reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Manchester United's Sverker Hammarberg played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Peter Säv in the 46th minute of play. A collision led to Manchester United getting a freekick after 47 minutes play. Kenneth Persson hit a great ball. In the 48th minute of the match Peter Säv shot from a long distance. The ball could have gone into the goal to the right of the goalkeeper, but Sverker Hammarberg showed his good shape when he easily got hold of the ball. After a very even first half the match was still tied. The players went to their respective dressing rooms to discuss the tactics for the second half.

After 51 minutes of play, the referee blew the whistle. It was a penalty for Rätan IF! In the 53rd minute there was a penalty for Manchester United. Elder do Valle stepped forward and shot the ball to the right of a diving Kurt Andreasson. 1-0. An unexpectedly hard shot by Elder do Valle in the 58th minute of play forced Rätan IF's goalkeeper Kurt Andreasson to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. In the 60th minute Mevlüt Özal shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Kurt Andreasson saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. In the 64th minute, Fedor Del Campo hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. The supporters of Manchester United booed when Rätan IF was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 72 match minutes in a wonderful position. Martin Walroth didn't get a good kick on the ball. Kurt Andreasson showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Elder do Valle, who was totally free with the ball in the 80th minute. After 82 played minutes Manchester United got a freekick which was hit by Kenneth Persson. Ian Alegren sent away a hard shot on goal in the 86th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. If Kristoffer Snäll had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 94th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead.
