The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. If Arne Kullander had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 3rd minute. Gilmar Baiano fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 4th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Félix Venerando having to interfere. A collision led to Leões do Sul 53 getting a freekick after 7 minutes play. Dário Porto hit a great ball. A sloppy throw-in by Breno Cerezo in the 13th minute of the game went astray and was snapped up by Leões do Sul 53's Breno Porto. An unexpectedly hard shot by Gilmar Baiano in the 16th minute of play forced Floresta Negra FC's goalkeeper Félix Venerando to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Dário Porto hit a great freekick 17 minutes into the match. Leões do Sul 53's Rogério Seco got a good chance for a goal in the 25th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Edinho Camargo made an important save on a dangerous shot by José Viana in the 34th minute. The corner went over the outstretched arms of Leões do Sul 53's goalie and right to Paulinho Vinhas. He fired away a shot at goal, but the shot had too much spin, and it went just outside the goal. Leões do Sul 53's manager breathed a sigh of relief on the sidelines as his team had managed to escape an almost certain goal. Félix Venerando showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Gilmar Baiano, who was totally free with the ball in the 38th minute. Arne Kullander recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 41st minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. Félix Venerando showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Rogério Seco, who was totally free with the ball in the 47th minute.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell José Viana to make the kick off. In the 51st minute Tostão Queirós shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Edinho Camargo saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Leões do Sul 53's Edinho Camargo played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by José Viana in the 58th minute of play. In the 60th minute, Sydney da Cunha made a precise shot to the right of Félix Venerando. Floresta Negra FC's defense was at fault, and the scoreboard reflected the new score, 0-1. José Viana scored 1-1 in the 65th match minute with a shot that went into the goal to the right of Edinho Camargo, who was just a little too slow in reacting to the shot. Félix Venerando made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Gilmar Baiano in the 68th minute of play. With a couple of smart ball manuevers José Viana in the 72nd managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Edinho Camargo saved Leões do Sul 53 from getting behind. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Fernandinho Araújo during the 73rd minute.
