Atlético Ourense's supporters crossed their fingers, but Rogelio Verdaguer was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. An unexpectedly hard shot by Unai Calatayud in the 28th minute of play forced Atlético de Sagunto's goalkeeper Baudilio Llinares to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. A collision led to Atlético de Sagunto getting a freekick after 31 minutes play. Walme Helguera hit a great ball. 33 minutes into the game, Indartsu Sarro lined in a short shot 2-0 behind a frustrated Baudilio Llinares. In the 37th minute Mino Borrás shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Baudilio Llinares saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. The audience thought a goal was coming when Unai Calatayud got free with Baudilio Llinares in the 46th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. No-one was surprised that the home team were leading 3-0 at half-time.

When the second half was about to start, both teams quickly lined up and Unai Calatayud made a kick off. Atlético de Sagunto's Baudilio Llinares played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Unai Calatayud in the 51st minute of play. Unai Calatayud recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 53rd minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. After 56 played minutes Atlético de Sagunto got a freekick which was hit by Heliodoro Segura. After having played for 60 minutes, Dubardo Mangas managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Heliodoro Segura made in the 86th minute of the game a sloppy throw-in which Walme Helguera however managed to control. In the 88th minute Unai Calatayud shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Baudilio Llinares saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Baudilio Llinares showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Unai Calatayud in the 92nd minute of the match. Dubardo Mangas might have been able to make a better finish in the 95th minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Baudilio Llinares. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Dubardo Mangas ran back to his position shaking his head. Atlético Ourense's supporters were delighted with their team's performance and swarmed onto the pitch at the end of the match to celebrate the victory with the players.
