Spectators: 206 (Terracing: 155, Seating: 47, VIP seats: 4) Dark clouds were building up when the players entered the field. None of the them looked very eager to play. Dinu Slicaru started the match with the kick off. Răzvan Paulică hit a great freekick 2 minutes into the match. With a little luck, PHOENIX Cluj-Napoca's Valer Onișoru got control of the ball when Ionică Floreanu tried to sneak it across the goal line. GoooooooooooooooooooooooL's Ioan Papadima was first on the ball when the corner was shot and he dangerously headed the ball towards goal, but Valer Onișoru in the goal jumped up to prevent it from getting in. The supporters of GoooooooooooooooooooooooL booed when PHOENIX Cluj-Napoca was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 15 match minutes in a wonderful position. Codruț Macaneață didn't get a good kick on the ball. Valer Onișoru was in exellent shape and made a fantastic save when he, in the 15th minute of the match, managed to get hold of the ball after a long shot from Paul Beniuc. After 21 played minutes GoooooooooooooooooooooooL got a freekick which was hit by Dumitru Tănăsie. Cazimir Roșeanu fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 23rd minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Valer Onișoru having to interfere. 27 minutes into the match, GoooooooooooooooooooooooL's goal looked a bit too open when Silver Phoenix came free, but Gelu Ţintea reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. A collision led to PHOENIX Cluj-Napoca getting a freekick after 29 minutes play. Răzvan Paulică hit a great ball. Valer Onișoru made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Dinu Slicaru in the 41st minute of play. Codruț Macaneață scored 0-1 in the 43rd match minute with a shot that went into the goal to the right of Gelu Ţintea, who was just a little too slow in reacting to the shot. Valer Onișoru made an important save on a dangerous shot by Dinu Slicaru in the 46th minute. Luck had favoured the away team in the first, and they walked off with a 0-1 lead.

The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Iurie Bănățeanu was the one to do the kick off. After a rather tough play, PHOENIX Cluj-Napoca's Iurie Bănățeanu got a free kick in the 56th minute. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Petrică Cezariu in the 64th minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Valer Onișoru prevented the ball from getting in the gole. PHOENIX Cluj-Napoca's Iurie Poplăcan was substituted for Iurie Bănățeanu. In the 67th minute, Bogdan Pârlog hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. The audience thought a goal was coming when Gigi Bobei got free with Gelu Ţintea in the 68th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. Valer Onișoru showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Petrică Cezariu in the 69th minute of the match. Gigi Bobei fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 74th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Gelu Ţintea having to interfere. PHOENIX Cluj-Napoca's Răzvan Paulică quite brazenly broke a throw-in by David Dinulescu, made in the 79th minute of the game. After 80 played minutes PHOENIX Cluj-Napoca got a freekick which was hit by Iurie Poplăcan. PHOENIX Cluj-Napoca's Valer Onișoru played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Petrică Cezariu in the 86th minute of play. Valer Onișoru took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Dinu Slicaru, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side.
