In the 9thth minute of the game Carolo Sayveon who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but Sporting de Gijón's Delmar Orti was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. 10 minutes into the match, Expresso Ranelagh's goal looked a bit too open when Blas-Armando Giunta came free, but Evelio Seber reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. The referee blew the whistle for a penalty in the 13th minute of the game. One of Expresso Ranelagh:s players had nearly got his shirt torn off by an opponent while getting free in front of Sporting de Gijón:s goal. In the 16th minute there was a penalty for Sporting de Gijón. Blas-Armando Giunta stepped forward and shot the ball to the right of a diving Evelio Seber. 0-1. The supporters of Sporting de Gijón booed when Expresso Ranelagh was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 19 match minutes in a wonderful position. Leonardo Natal didn't get a good kick on the ball. Blas-Armando Giunta struck a weak shot in the 20th minute. Evelio Seber didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Sporting de Gijón. After a defensive mix-up in Sporting de Gijón's zone, Leonardo Natal stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Delmar Orti came out of the goal and Leonardo Natal tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. If Arnoldo Ubarna had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 25th minute. The ball went over the crossbar instead. Arnoldo Ubarna scored 0-2 in the 30th match minute with a shot that went into the goal to the right of Evelio Seber, who was just a little too slow in reacting to the shot. 36 minutes into the game, Raimundo Austin was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Expresso Ranelagh's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Sporting de Gijón the free kick. In the 38th minute, Sporting de Gijón's goalie took a deep sigh of relief after Raimundo Austin fired away a hard shot that went just outside the left post. Evelio Seber showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Arnoldo Ubarna in the 41st minute of the match. An unexpected shot in the 46th minute by Tomás Seme got the crowd on their feet, but to their dismay it went out on the left side. Sporting de Gijón made a substitution. Francisco Gabino replaced Apolo Herrera. After the first half Sporting de Gijón were leading 0-2. They had played with great self confidence throughout the first half and fully deserved their lead.
