An unexpectedly hard shot by Julien Klopp in the 3rd minute of play forced Gremio Viana's goalkeeper Vicente Paixão to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. In the 5th minute, Julien Klopp ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Vicente Paixão was frozen by the shot and now it was 0-1. In the 9th match minute, FC Lëtzebuerg was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Tim Tudor to maneuver through the defense. In the 10th minute the ball was on its way in behind FC Lëtzebuerg's goalkeeper Bobby Krier, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. Basílio Caetano recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 11th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. Paulo Lage hit a great freekick 17 minutes into the match. In the 19th minute Julien Klopp shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Vicente Paixão saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. 20 minutes into the game, Julien Klopp cracked a shot to the right of the goalkeeper, 0-2. Vicente Paixão was not in position, and could only watch the ball fly in. Gremio Viana's attacker deliberately struck the ball against an opponent to win a corner for his team. The corner was taken by Nuno Durães in the 24th minute. Nuno Durães made a great header on Gremio Viana's corner, it was just that FC Lëtzebuerg's Bobby Krier managed to reach the ball for a save. Vicente Paixão came out of the goal in the 28th minute to try and stop a shot by FC Lëtzebuerg's Julien Klopp. But to his dismay, Julien Klopp quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 0-3. Basílio Caetano came free with the goalkeeper in the 31st minute of the match, and shot straight on target. The shot was a little too simple and Bobby Krier could save by the left post. The corner led FC Lëtzebuerg's Abraham Pflaumenbaum to fire away a dangerous shot which Vicente Paixão despite some difficulties managed to get hold on the ball. The audience thought a goal was coming when Basílio Caetano got free with Bobby Krier in the 40th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. Vicente Paixão made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Julien Klopp in the 42nd minute of play. Frankie Kremer's late challenge caught a Gremio Viana's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Frankie Kremer helped the player get up and apologised. The referee blew the whistle for a penalty in the 44th minute of the game. One of FC Lëtzebuerg:s players had nearly got his shirt torn off by an opponent while getting free in front of Gremio Viana:s goal. In the 46th minute there was a penalty for Gremio Viana. Nuno Durães stepped forward and shot the ball to the right of a diving Bobby Krier. 1-3. Disappointed in the 1-3 score, the home team went to the dressing room to adjust tactics for the second half.
The wind increased when Bernd Chevalier made the kick off in the second half. Vicente Paixão took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Julien Klopp, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Vicente Paixão made an important save on a dangerous shot by Bernd Chevalier in the 58th minute. Bobby Krier made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Gusmão Azeredo in the 67th minute of play. 72 minutes into the match, Gremio Viana's Edson Nascimento sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Bobby Krier narrowly saved just below the crossbar. In the 73rd minute, Lucílio Valente hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Vicente Paixão showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Julien Klopp, who was totally free with the ball in the 79th minute. Gremio Viana's Vicente Paixão proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 80th minute of the match, managed to save Gremio Viana from getting a goal against them. Vicente Paixão made a fantastic save in the 82nd minute, when Bernd Chevalier sent off a good shot on target. In the 84th minute, Julien Klopp ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Vicente Paixão was frozen by the shot and now it was 1-4. In the 86th minute, Julien Klopp made a precise shot to the right of Vicente Paixão. Gremio Viana's defense was at fault, and the scoreboard reflected the new score, 1-5. After having played for 93 minutes, Julien Klopp managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. FC Lëtzebuerg's supporters crossed their fingers, but Julien Klopp was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. After some careless play in the FC Lëtzebuerg defense, Basílio Caetano kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Bobby Krier. The FC Lëtzebuerg fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Bobby Krier should have stopped the shot.
