Real Sociedad's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Joeri Buys was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 0-1. The supporters of Albertus FC booed when Real Sociedad was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 27 match minutes in a wonderful position. Pierre-Emmanuel Decamps didn't get a good kick on the ball. Christijan van Asseldonk hit a great freekick 31 minutes into the match. After 32 played minutes Real Sociedad got a freekick which was hit by Gaël Moutard. Af the end of the first half the score was 2-1. The first half had gone as expected for the home team.

Marco Ginola made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Hans-Cees Ricksen in the 91st minute of play. 94 minutes into the match, Albertus FC's goal looked a bit too open when François Vieu came free, but Leendert Borg reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. The referee blew his whistle, and the match came to a close. The players exchanged shirts and headed down the tunnel. The Real Sociedad fans cheered their team off the field, for while Albertus FC had put up a good fight, they were unable to come out of the game with any points to show for their effort.
