The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. America De Cali's Ioritz Hernainz played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Rain De Hond in the 2nd minute of play. In the 4th minute Sansone Poso shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Jannes Van Leempoel saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. America De Cali's Ioritz Hernainz played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Suat Kaya in the 5th minute of play. Suat Kayas short, quick shot in the 8thth minute got Ioritz Hernainz to make great effort and bar the ball away from getting in. With his leg Ioritz Hernainz managed to avoid a goal in the 9thth minute, when Genk's Vergil Rupov fired away a shot with a lot of spin towards his right hand side. Jannes Van Leempoel came out of the goal in the 12th minute to try and stop a shot by America De Cali's Sansone Poso. But to his dismay, Sansone Poso quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 0-1. In the 17thth minute of the game Sansone Poso who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but Genk's Jannes Van Leempoel was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. Ioritz Hernainz showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Vergil Rupov in the 19th minute of the match. A sloppy throw-in by Alfons Rijniers in the 21st minute of the game went astray and was snapped up by America De Cali's Manga Escobar. Sansone Poso sent away a hard shot on goal in the 27th minute, but the ball hit the crossbar and went out. A very good chance for a goal. The audience thought a goal was coming when Suat Kaya got free with Ioritz Hernainz in the 28th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. In the 30th minute Vergil Rupov shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Ioritz Hernainz saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Jannes Van Leempoel showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Sansone Poso in the 33rd minute of the match. 37 minutes into the match, Genk's goal looked a bit too open when Sansone Poso came free, but Jannes Van Leempoel reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. The crowd rose to their feet as Genk's Suat Kaya slotted home a wonderful shot that went in to the left of Ioritz Hernainz. That made the score 1-1 after 38 minutes of play. Ioritz Hernainz made a fantastic save in the 41st minute, when Suat Kaya sent off a good shot on target. After the first half the score was level. The break gave the players a chance to catch their breath, whilst the managers went over the tactics with them again.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Sansone Poso to make the kick off. In the 53rd minute Sansone Poso shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Jannes Van Leempoel saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Alexander Klemensson charged in rather forcefully in the 57th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Alexander Klemensson the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. The supporters of America De Cali booed when Genk was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 57 match minutes in a wonderful position. Alexander Klemensson didn't get a good kick on the ball. In the 58th minute of the match Gomesano Gatica sent off a long shot with destination to the right of the goalkeeper, but Jannes Van Leempoel skillfully saved the ball. After a rather tough play, Genk's Tony Mampaerts got a free kick in the 60th minute. An unexpectedly hard shot by Vergil Rupov in the 65th minute of play forced America De Cali's goalkeeper Ioritz Hernainz to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Suat Kaya in the 68th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Ioritz Hernainz saved America De Cali from getting behind. Sansone Poso received a nice pass, split the defenders, and ran untouched towards the goal. Jannes Van Leempoel came out and tried to block the shot, but Sansone Poso slotted it home off the left post making it 1-2 in the 70th minute. Manga Escobar lost his temper 75 minutes into the game and shoved another player to the ground. He was immediately shown a red card. After 75 minutes of play, the referee blew the whistle. It was a penalty for America De Cali! The referee gave Genk a penalty, 77 minutes into the game. The penalty shot was made by Alfons Rijniers, who made a well placed shot into the net to the right of America De Cali's Ioritz Hernainz. 2-2. Genk's Jannes Van Leempoel played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Ronaldo Messi in the 81st minute of play. 82 minutes into the match, Genk's goal looked a bit too open when Ronaldo Messi came free, but Jannes Van Leempoel reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Genk's Fredrik Creemers was substituted for Ariel Paris. In the 89th match minute, America De Cali was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Ronaldo Messi to maneuver through the defense. Jannes Van Leempoel was a little too slow when Ronaldo Messi got a fine hit on the ball which went right into the goal in the 93rd minute. The score was now 2-3. The referee blew the final whistle, and the away crowd roared, having watched America De Cali eke out a victory against a very well matched opponent.
