In the 19th minute of the match, João Severino tried to roll the ball into the goal by the right post, but Basílio Xavier saw his intentions and got control of the ball before it passed the line. Basílio Xavier stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of João Severino's shot from short distance in the 23rd minute. Basílio Xavier made an important save on a dangerous shot by Virgílio Perez in the 27th minute. Virgílio Perez sent away a hard shot on goal in the 28th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Alfredinho Machado could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 30th minute of the match, but Basílio Xavier made a huge save. Fluminense di Parma's Basílio Xavier played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Virgílio Perez in the 32nd minute of play. Jens-Ove Eriksson was in a good position and managed to take a shot, but he missed just to the outside of the post. In a very dangerous position, a player in Fluminense di Parma fell when an opponent tried to get the ball from him in the 36th minute. Penalty! Fluminense di Parma:s Basílio Xavier showed great skill when he stopped João Severino:s penalty. The home fans were very happy to see their team leading 4-0 at half-time.

In the 71st minute João Severino shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Basílio Xavier saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Basílio Xavier made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Váldson Bittencourt in the 73rd minute of play. The audience was convinced that Fausto Mendonça's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Basílio Xavier was relentless in the 75th minute of the game. 77 minutes into the match, Váldson Bittencourt had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of Basílio Xavier. Fluminense di Parma's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Váldson Bittencourt was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 9-0.
