The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Chap Arzola during the 7th minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. A collision led to Paipa getting a freekick after 8 minutes play. Chap Arzola hit a great ball. Macario Mayo made an important save on a dangerous shot by Jaime Zamanillo in the 10th minute. 12 minutes into the match, Ursino Mina dribbled the ball past the defender and swiftly kicked the ball to the left of Macario Mayo, 1-0. A collision led to Club Atletico Nacional getting a freekick after 16 minutes play. Jaime Zamanillo hit a great ball. Macario Mayo showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Chan Arcaya, who was totally free with the ball in the 18th minute. Gonsalvo Dean struck a weak shot in the 19th minute. Macario Mayo didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Club Atletico Nacional. In the 21st minute Chan Arcaya shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Macario Mayo saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Stephen Balaunde took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Oihenarte Villagomez, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Jaime Zamanillo recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 26th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. Guillelme Boces was extremely unlucky when he, in the 28th minute, took a shot that hit the right post and went out. 30 minutes into the match, Gonsalvo Dean notched a goal, 2-0, to the right of Paipa's Macario Mayo. Macario Mayo was clearly disgusted with the effort of the defense and let the defenders know about it. In the 35thth minute of the game Chan Arcaya who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but Paipa's Macario Mayo was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. In the 36th minute of the match Club Atletico Nacional got a corner. Paipa's goalie ran out to the linesman to protest the call, but the linesman resolutely pointed his flag at the cornerflag. Chan Arcaya ran over to the corner to take the kick. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Jaime Zamanillo in the 39th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Macario Mayo saved Paipa from getting behind. When Gonsalvo Dean came up free with the goalie in the 43rd minute, the Club Atletico Nacional fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Gonsalvo Dean couldn't finish the play. Gonsalvo Dean who was well placed in front of the goal fired away a dangerous shot that in the 44thth minute tested the skills of Macario Mayo when he managed to save the team from getting behind. 47 minutes into the match, Club Atletico Nacional's Gonsalvo Dean sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Macario Mayo narrowly saved just below the crossbar. When the referee blew for the end of the half the home team players were clearly happier, as they went in to the break leading 2-0.

The hometeam waved at the audience when it was time for Chan Arcaya to strike the kick off in the second half. Macario Mayo stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Chan Arcaya's shot from short distance in the 52nd minute. Macario Mayo was left in no man's land by his defense there! It was no surprise that this one had ended in a win for the home team. Club Atletico Nacional had played much better football throughout.
