Bonita's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave DC United the free kick. Teddy Scruggs kicked well hit freekick during the 29th minute of the match. DeAndre Scott made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Wilfred Dubois in the 39th minute of play. Van Stern struck a weak shot in the 42nd minute. DeAndre Scott didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for DC United. In the 43rd minute, Wilfred Dubois left the goalkeeper for dead before tapping the ball into the right side of the net. The DC United fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 1-1. DeAndre Scott showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Bo Healy in the 46th minute of the match. DeAndre Scott took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Bo Healy, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. The first half was very even, with the score at 1-1 when the whistle went for half-time. The players welcomed the break and quickly retired to the dressing rooms.

The hometeam waved at the audience when it was time for Boyce Thomson to strike the kick off in the second half. DeAndre Scott made a fantastic save in the 54th minute, when Kirby Wyatt sent off a good shot on target. Boyce Thomson received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 59th minute. In the 70th minute, Jaime Atwood reached a very good position and smashed the ball with a huge effort into the net, just to the left of DeAndre Scott. The goal made the score 1-2. In the 75th minute, Van Stern hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Jeremiah McClain struck a weak shot in the 77th minute. Reinaldo Herndon didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Bonita. A collision led to DC United getting a freekick after 84 minutes play. Wilmer Bartley hit a great ball. If Jeff Goins had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 86th minute. The ball went over the crossbar instead. 92 minutes into the match, Bonita's Boyce Thomson sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Reinaldo Herndon narrowly saved just below the crossbar. In the 93rd minute Bo Healy shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but DeAndre Scott saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. If Jeff Goins had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 96th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. DC United were delighted with the way they had won the match. They had held their defensive line well and made the most of their chances, to claim a victory over Bonita's much stronger midfield.
