An unexpectedly hard shot by Geoff Lehman in the 40th minute of play forced Smithtown's goalkeeper Oswaldo Sutton to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. When Jonah Anderson fell near the penalty area in the 42nd minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored FC West Palm Beach's protests and gave Jonah Anderson a yellow card for diving instead. After 81 played minutes FC West Palm Beach got a freekick which was hit by Wincent Domaracki. After some fancy dribbling in the 81st minute, Timmy Travis managed to get in a good position for a shot. Smithtown's supporters rose to their feet, but Timmy Travis was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Claudinho Taffarel breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick.
