A collision led to Flame Throwers getting a freekick after 11 minutes play. Mickey Velasco hit a great ball. With a little luck, Markham FC's Bektaş Veli Tokuz got control of the ball when Sebastian Townsend tried to sneak it across the goal line. In the 18thth minute of the game Benedykt Waselewicz who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but Flame Throwers's Shelton Knutson was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. 20 minutes into the match, Markham FC's goal looked a bit too open when Reinaldo McCormick came free, but Bektaş Veli Tokuz reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Bektaş Veli Tokuz showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Scotty Dietz, who was totally free with the ball in the 21st minute. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Benedykt Waselewicz in the 38th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Shelton Knutson saved Flame Throwers from getting behind. Markham FC's Monroe Mims was first on the ball when the corner was shot and he dangerously headed the ball towards goal, but Shelton Knutson in the goal jumped up to prevent it from getting in. Shelton Knutson showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Hank Blackburn, who was totally free with the ball in the 43rd minute. When the match clock showed 45 minutes, the score became 0-1 when Benedykt Waselewicz sped through Flame Throwers's defense and sent away a curving shot that went into the net to the right of Shelton Knutson. Bartolo Urtzi's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Shelton Knutson read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 48th minute of play.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Benedykt Waselewicz to make the kick off. 51 minutes into the match, Flame Throwers's goalkeeper Shelton Knutson had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Benedykt Waselewicz.
