Tom Adams could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 16th minute of the match, but Aaron Smallwood made a huge save. Aaron Smallwood took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Lamar Gallo, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. An unexpectedly hard shot by Lanny Gilmore in the 19th minute of play forced El Canalla de Chicago's goalkeeper Wilbur Hyde to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. The audience thought a goal was coming when Lamar Gallo got free with Aaron Smallwood in the 26th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. In the 30th minute Tyron Velasquez shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Wilbur Hyde saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. El Canalla de Chicago's Wilbur Hyde played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Lanny Gilmore in the 31st minute of play. In the 44th minute, Tyron Velasquez got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. After fighting hard for a draw in the first half, the players were able to take a much needed rest.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Domingo Lopez to make the kick off. Wilbur Hyde was clearly disgusted with the effort of the defense and let the defenders know about it. Aaron Smallwood took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Justin Raines, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side.
