Saverio Niva blasted a shot towards the goal in the 11th minute, but the shot hit the top of the crossbar and went out without Sven Van Ghele having to make a save. 13 minutes into the match, Club Atlético Lanús's goal looked a bit too open when Wágner Recife came free, but Sven Van Ghele reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Sven Van Ghele took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Saverio Niva, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Club Atlético Lanús's Sven Van Ghele played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Saverio Niva in the 16th minute of play. Hong Copeland recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 17th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. The referee ignored Club Atlético Lanús's protests and gave Lothaire Maddox a yellow card for diving instead. In the 57th minute Vancouver Reds were awarded a corner. Róbson Queirós went to the cornerflag to take it. When Eugène Jetté got the opportunity to take care of a free kick it resulted in a really dangerous shot that almost went in the goal. Instead the ball went too high, a missed opportunity for Vancouver Reds. Sven Van Ghele showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Cameron Leary in the 59th minute of the match. Róbson Queirós received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 60th minute. Sven Van Ghele tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Santana Armada made an important save on a dangerous shot by Lothaire Maddox in the 63rd minute. The audience thought a goal was coming when Lothaire Maddox got free with Santana Armada in the 64th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. With a little luck, Vancouver Reds's Santana Armada got control of the ball when Lothaire Maddox tried to sneak it across the goal line. Sven Van Ghele showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Wágner Recife, who was totally free with the ball in the 66th minute. After a rather tough play, Vancouver Reds's Eugène Jetté got a free kick in the 67th minute. Wiliam Xavier hit a great freekick 69 minutes into the match. Club Atlético Lanús's Hong Copeland managed, thanks to a brazen rush, stole the ball on a throw-in made by Wiliam Xavier in the 72 minute of the game. Santana Armada made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Sidney Cavazos in the 77th minute of play. With a little luck, Vancouver Reds's Santana Armada got control of the ball when Liviu Liviu tried to sneak it across the goal line. When the match had gone on for 85 minutes, Liviu Liviu took a quick shot and it went in 0-1 without a chance for Santana Armada to make any attempt to save it. Sidney Cavazos sent away a hard shot on goal in the 90th minute, but the ball hit the crossbar and went out. A very good chance for a goal. In the 93rd minute, Édouard Bacon hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. After some fancy dribbling in the 96th minute, Saverio Niva managed to get in a good position for a shot. Vancouver Reds's supporters rose to their feet, but Saverio Niva was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Sven Van Ghele breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick.
