The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. The supporters of Guayabos booed when C. A. Peñarol was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 2 match minutes in a wonderful position. Caetano Soria didn't get a good kick on the ball. A collision led to C. A. Peñarol getting a freekick after 4 minutes play. John Maza hit a great ball. 7 minutes into the match, Guayabos's goal looked a bit too open when Leon Vallino came free, but Americo Rujido reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Rocendo Iturriaga made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Fero Quiroz in the 11th minute of play. With a little luck, Guayabos's Americo Rujido got control of the ball when Cordaro Meca tried to sneak it across the goal line. Cordaro Meca took the ball and in the 14 minute, shot a rapid shot to the right of a surprised Americo Rujido. Americo Rujido dived to the right, and did manage to get a hand on the shot, but it still went into the right corner making it 1-0. Gartxot Tosantos blasted a shot towards the goal in the 20th minute, but the shot hit the top of the crossbar and went out without Americo Rujido having to make a save. If Fero Quiroz had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 23rd minute. The ball went over the crossbar instead. After 23 minutes, Fero Quiroz mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Guayabos and the C. A. Peñarol players grew even worse after the yellow card. In the 23rd minute, Fero Quiroz hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Caetano Soria was shown his second yellow card after 25 minutes, following a rather ugly tackle on opponent. That was the end of his participation in the match. The supporters of Guayabos booed when C. A. Peñarol was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 27 match minutes in a wonderful position. Quin Antia didn't get a good kick on the ball. When Ryan Bañuelos came up free with the goalie in the 28th minute, the Guayabos fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Ryan Bañuelos couldn't finish the play. In the 29th minute, Osoitz Albar made a precise shot to the right of Rocendo Iturriaga. C. A. Peñarol's defense was at fault, and the scoreboard reflected the new score, 1-1. Rocendo Iturriaga showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Fero Quiroz, who was totally free with the ball in the 33rd minute. When Osoitz Albar came up free with the goalie in the 34th minute, the Guayabos fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Osoitz Albar couldn't finish the play. After a rather tough play, C. A. Peñarol's Leon Vallino got a free kick in the 37th minute. C. A. Peñarol's Cordaro Meca got a good chance for a goal in the 44th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Osoitz Albar fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 48th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Rocendo Iturriaga having to interfere. After fighting hard for a draw in the first half, the players were able to take a much needed rest.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Fero Quiroz stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. After a defensive mix-up in C. A. Peñarol's zone, Osoitz Albar stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Rocendo Iturriaga came out of the goal and Osoitz Albar tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Leon Vallino sent away a hard shot on goal in the 61st minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Osoitz Albar could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 64th minute of the match, but Rocendo Iturriaga made a huge save. In the 67th minute Cordaro Meca shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Americo Rujido saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Cordaro Meca sent away a hard shot on goal in the 71st minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. A collision led to C. A. Peñarol getting a freekick after 75 minutes play. Cordarrell Rozas hit a great ball. Ryan Bañuelos was probably a little too eager to shoot when he, in the 76th played minute, shot the ball from way out. The shot was hard, but the ball flew wide of the goal. In the 77th match minute, C. A. Peñarol was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Rudolfo Quevedo to maneuver through the defense. Fero Quiroz recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 80th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. Guayabos's Fero Quiroz got a good chance for a goal in the 87th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Rocendo Iturriaga showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Fero Quiroz in the 89th minute of the match. After 90 played minutes Guayabos's Osoitz Albar stole the ball from his opponents and shot the ball towards the upper left corner, but Rocendo Iturriaga stretched himself as far as he could, and stopped the ball from passing the line. robbing C. A. Peñarol of the goal. Fero Quiroz struck a weak shot in the 92nd minute. Rocendo Iturriaga didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Guayabos. The teams fought very hard right up to the final whistle. Both sets of players were happy to go away with a draw.
