When Zé Roberto Mangueira came up free with the goalie in the 8th minute, the Freixeira fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Zé Roberto Mangueira couldn't finish the play. Ulisses Favoretto fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 10th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Alfredo Almeida having to interfere. After a rather tough play, Santo Antonio's Renatinho Pernambucano got a free kick in the 11th minute. Romeu Pontes was in a good position and managed to take a shot, but he missed just to the outside of the post. 17 minutes into the match, Freixeira's Ulisses Favoretto sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Alfredo Almeida narrowly saved just below the crossbar. Frédson Furtado hit a great freekick 18 minutes into the match. Alfredo Almeida made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Ulisses Favoretto in the 18th minute of play. Santo Antonio's Alfredo Almeida played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Ulisses Favoretto in the 20th minute of play. In the 25th minute, Santo Antonio's Flávio Lago ran free of his marker and smoothly shot the ball into the goal behind Enno Klebsch. Enno Klebsch yelled at his defense, as they had left him out to dry. 1-0. Oswaldo Fontes struck a weak shot in the 31st minute. Alfredo Almeida didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Freixeira. Alfredo Almeida took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Ulisses Favoretto, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. After 33 played minutes Santo Antonio got a freekick which was hit by Frédson Furtado. In the 37th minute, Zé Roberto Mangueira ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Alfredo Almeida was frozen by the shot and now it was 1-1. Freixeira's Toninho Figueiredo was substituted for Ulisses Favoretto. Alfredo Almeida stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Toninho Figueiredo's shot from short distance in the 47th minute. After a very even first half the match was still tied. The players went to their respective dressing rooms to discuss the tactics for the second half.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Toninho Figueiredo to make the kick off. Toninho Figueiredo struck a weak shot in the 52nd minute. Alfredo Almeida didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Freixeira. An unexpected shot in the 56th minute by Toninho Figueiredo got the crowd on their feet, but to their dismay it went out on the left side. In the 57th minute, Enrique Miranda got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. In the 61st minute, Enrique Miranda reached a very good position and smashed the ball with a huge effort into the net, just to the left of Alfredo Almeida. The goal made the score 1-2. 71 minutes into the match, Santo Antonio's goal looked a bit too open when Enrique Miranda came free, but Alfredo Almeida reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. If Toninho Figueiredo had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 72nd minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Toninho Figueiredo sent away a hard shot on goal in the 74th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Alfredo Almeida showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Enrique Miranda in the 76th minute of the match. After some fancy dribbling in the 79th minute, Oswaldo Fontes managed to get in a good position for a shot. Freixeira's supporters rose to their feet, but Oswaldo Fontes was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Alfredo Almeida breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. 80 minutes into the game, Freixeira's Enrique Miranda nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. Alfredo Almeida made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 1-3. Renatinho Pernambucano kicked well hit freekick during the 84th minute of the match. Alfredo Almeida showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Enrique Miranda, who was totally free with the ball in the 86th minute. An unexpectedly hard shot by Enrique Miranda in the 89th minute of play forced Santo Antonio's goalkeeper Alfredo Almeida to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. A hard shot 90 in the game by Toninho Figueiredo from a close distance when the talented Alfredo Almeida managed to make a qualified save. Santo Antonio's players were relieved. Freixeira's players went to the stands to thank the travelling support. The fan's backing had helped spurr the team on to a fine performance that won them the match.
