In the 9th match minute, Sport Club was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Leonel Esteves to maneuver through the defense. Rafa Couto hit a great freekick 13 minutes into the match. Delfim Montenegro received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 15th minute. Sandrinho Meirelles tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. In the 16th minute Francisco Leal shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Sandrinho Meirelles saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Sandrinho Meirelles stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Francisco Leal's shot from short distance in the 23rd minute. If Maurinho Silveira had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 25th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. The supporters of Estrela Vermelha booed when Sport Club was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 27 match minutes in a wonderful position. Rafa Couto didn't get a good kick on the ball. After 30 minutes of play Sport Club's Rafa Couto was too eager in his attempt to stop his opponent and brought him down. With that he got his second yellow card and was ordered off the ground. In the 29th minute, one of Sport Club:s players had the ball in front of the goal but got pushed and fell. The referee felt it was an obvious case and blew a penalty for Sport Club. The referee gave Estrela Vermelha a penalty, 31 minutes into the game. The penalty shot was made by Francisco Leal, who made a well placed shot into the net to the right of Sport Club's Sandrinho Meirelles. 0-1. Sandrinho Meirelles took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Francisco Leal, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. If Duarte Cabral had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 39th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Even after changing tactics the home team jogged off the field with a 0-2 deficit. They would have to work harder if they wanted to turn things around in the second half.

The hometeam waved at the audience when it was time for Percy Soeiro to strike the kick off in the second half. When the match clock showed 55 minutes, the score became 1-2 when Percy Soeiro sped through Estrela Vermelha's defense and sent away a curving shot that went into the net to the right of Germano da Costa. The supporters of Sport Club booed when Estrela Vermelha was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 58 match minutes in a wonderful position. Albertinho de Carvalho didn't get a good kick on the ball. 59 minutes into the match, Sport Club's Percy Soeiro sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Germano da Costa narrowly saved just below the crossbar. Sport Club's defense didn't have a chance, in the 61st minute, when Francisco Leal scored to the left of an out of position Sandrinho Meirelles, making the score, 1-3. In the 64th minute, Leonel Esteves hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. When the match clock showed 67 minutes, the score became 2-3 when Percy Soeiro sped through Estrela Vermelha's defense and sent away a curving shot that went into the net to the right of Germano da Costa. Leonel Esteves recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 72nd minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. In the 74th minute Marquinhos da Cunha shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Germano da Costa saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. If Leonel Esteves had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 80th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Francisco Leal's shot straight on target was not completely harmless. The ball had pretty good speed, but Sandrinho Meirelles firmly grabbed it by the left post. Estrela Vermelha's Germano da Costa played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Percy Soeiro in the 91st minute of play. Percy Soeiro recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 93rd minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. Percy Soeiro sent away a hard shot on goal in the 95th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Estrela Vermelha's supporters were very happy and cheered loudly because their team had won after a very close match.
