In the 41st minute, Olívio da Fonseca reached a very good position and smashed the ball with a huge effort into the net, just to the left of Betinho Araújo. The goal made the score 3-2. Lucas Matias fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 46th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Betinho Araújo having to interfere. 48 minutes into the match, São Paulo FC's goal looked a bit too open when Renato Travassos came free, but Hernani Abreu reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. When the referee blew for the end of the half the home team players were clearly happier, as they went in to the break leading 3-2.
