Though ot was a great shot Cosmos Internacional Club's keeper Nando Ramos was sill able to block leaving the score board unchanged. In the 6th minute Gustavo Cosme shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Marco Alcântara saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Arlindo Rocha came free with the goalkeeper in the 8th minute of the match, and shot straight on target. The shot was a little too simple and Nando Ramos could save by the left post. Cacá Rodrigues struck a weak shot in the 11th minute. Marco Alcântara didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Cosmos Internacional Club. Gualter Rosa kicked well hit freekick during the 13th minute of the match. The supporters of Cosmos Internacional Club booed when Maracanu was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 14 match minutes in a wonderful position. Fausto Abreu didn't get a good kick on the ball. Nando Ramos showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Hílton Maciel in the 17th minute of the match. The audience was convinced that Hílton Maciel's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Nando Ramos was relentless in the 26th minute of the game. 29 minutes into the game, Amadeu Mangueira was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Cosmos Internacional Club's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Maracanu the free kick. A collision led to Cosmos Internacional Club getting a freekick after 29 minutes play. Amadeu Mangueira hit a great ball. In the 30th minute, Jefferson Tróia sent off a long shot on goal, but the shot was nowhere near the goal and Cosmos Internacional Club's Nando Ramos didn't even have to move. After a defensive mix-up in Cosmos Internacional Club's zone, Hílton Maciel stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Nando Ramos came out of the goal and Hílton Maciel tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. In the 35th minute, Fausto Abreu got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. With his leg Nando Ramos managed to avoid a goal in the 38thth minute, when Maracanu's Fausto Abreu fired away a shot with a lot of spin towards his right hand side. The supporters of Maracanu booed when Cosmos Internacional Club was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 39 match minutes in a wonderful position. Gualter Rosa didn't get a good kick on the ball. Hílton Maciel received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 40th minute. Nando Ramos tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Fausto Abreu could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 44th minute of the match, but Nando Ramos made a huge save. If Fausto Abreu had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 45th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. No-one was surprised that the home team were leading 1-0 at half-time.

Nando Ramos showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Hílton Maciel, who was totally free with the ball in the 52nd minute. Hílton Maciel struck a weak shot in the 53rd minute. Nando Ramos didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Maracanu. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Jonas Cunha during the 56th minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. In the 56th minute, Jonas Cunha hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. 57 minutes into the game, Fausto Abreu was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Maracanu's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Cosmos Internacional Club the free kick. A collision led to Maracanu getting a freekick after 57 minutes play. Fausto Abreu hit a great ball. An unexpectedly hard shot by Fausto Abreu in the 59th minute of play forced Cosmos Internacional Club's goalkeeper Nando Ramos to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Hílton Maciel fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 63rd minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Nando Ramos having to interfere. When the match had gone on for 64 minutes, Fausto Abreu put it in 2-0 from a short distance just to the right of Nando Ramos. In the 67th match minute, Maracanu was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Manoel Vianna to maneuver through the defense. In the 71st minute, Manoel Vianna hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. After a rather tough play, Maracanu's Hílton Maciel got a free kick in the 80th minute. Fausto Abreu received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 83rd minute. Nando Ramos tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Fausto Abreu sent away a hard shot on goal in the 86th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. After 88 played minutes Cosmos Internacional Club got a freekick which was hit by Rubinho Queirós. Fausto Abreu recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 89th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. If Hílton Maciel had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 91st minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Manoel Vianna sent away a hard shot on goal in the 94th minute, but the ball hit the crossbar and went out. A very good chance for a goal. After 95 minutes, Gualter Rosa mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Cosmos Internacional Club and the Maracanu players grew even worse after the yellow card. After 96 played minutes Cosmos Internacional Club got a freekick which was hit by Gualter Rosa. Maracanu walked away with a well-earned victory that was much celebrated by the crowd.
