Mário Arce made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Anísio Dias in the 9th minute of play. 11 minutes into the game, Firmamento's Christiano Freire nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. Mário Arce made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 0-1. Anísio Dias fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 15th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Mário Arce having to interfere. Gilvan Veiga was astounded when the referee showed him the red card after a seemingly innocent challenge, 20 minutes into the match. In the 19th minute, one of Firmamento:s players had the ball in front of the goal but got pushed and fell. The referee felt it was an obvious case and blew a penalty for Firmamento. The referee gave Independente FC a penalty, 21 minutes into the game. The penalty shot was made by Clemente Vale, who made a well placed shot into the net to the right of Firmamento's Clóvis Trevisan. 1-1. Roberto Mangueira received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 25th minute. Mário Arce tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Mário Arce was left in no man's land by his defense there! Independente FC's Mário Arce played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Roberto Mangueira in the 35th minute of play. Elivélton Corrêa kicked well hit freekick during the 38th minute of the match. If Christiano Freire had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 41st minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Anísio Dias struck a weak shot in the 43rd minute. Mário Arce didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal.
