The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. Décio Ortiz took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Váldson Miranda, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. After 5 played minutes Zenit St Petersburg got a freekick which was hit by Joaquim Goiano. After a defensive mix-up in Zenit St Petersburg's zone, Valdomiro Pimenta stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Décio Ortiz came out of the goal and Valdomiro Pimenta tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Cléber Amorim charged in rather forcefully in the 8th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Cléber Amorim the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. In the 8th match minute, Zenit St Petersburg was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Cléber Amorim to maneuver through the defense. In a very dangerous position, a player in Zenit St Petersburg fell when an opponent tried to get the ball from him in the 10th minute. Penalty! Zenit St Petersburg's Décio Ortiz played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Geovani Mendes in the 16th minute of play. The audience thought a goal was coming when Gernando Quadros got free with Décio Ortiz in the 17th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. 2-0 became the score in the 20th minute when Geovani Mendes elegantly shot the ball into goal just under the crossbar. Décio Ortiz made a fantastic save in the 23rd minute, when Gernando Quadros sent off a good shot on target. In the 24th match minute, Zenit St Petersburg was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Dagoberto Cardoso to maneuver through the defense. After 26 minutes, Dagoberto Cardoso mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Zenit St Petersburg and the Guaimim FC players grew even worse after the yellow card. In the 25th minute, one of Zenit St Petersburg:s players had the ball in front of the goal but got pushed and fell. The referee felt it was an obvious case and blew a penalty for Zenit St Petersburg. Valdomiro Pimenta walked up to take care of the penalty kick. He was aiming for the top corner, but the ball went just outside the post. Cléber Amorim took the ball and in the 31 minute, shot a rapid shot to the right of a surprised Luís Paulo Mesquita. Luís Paulo Mesquita dived to the right, and did manage to get a hand on the shot, but it still went into the right corner making it 2-1. Zenit St Petersburg's Décio Ortiz proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 35th minute of the match, managed to save Zenit St Petersburg from getting a goal against them. Caco Falcão received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 39th minute. Luís Paulo Mesquita tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Augusto Terra charged in rather forcefully in the 41st minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Augusto Terra the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. In the 41st minute, Augusto Terra hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. No-one was surprised that the home team were leading 2-1 at half-time.

Décio Ortiz showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Geovani Mendes, who was totally free with the ball in the 52nd minute. If Cléber Amorim had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 55th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. 58 minutes into the match, Zenit St Petersburg's goal looked a bit too open when Geovani Mendes came free, but Décio Ortiz reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Gernando Quadros fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 60th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Décio Ortiz having to interfere. Dagoberto Cardoso hit a great freekick 61 minutes into the match. When Marco Capixaba fell near the penalty area in the 70th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Guaimim FC's protests and gave Marco Capixaba a yellow card for diving instead. If Cléber Amorim had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 73rd minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Olavo Matorin made in the 76th minute of the game a fairly good throw-in which was taken care of by Marco Capixaba. Décio Ortiz took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Geovani Mendes, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. After 95 minutes of play, Guaimim FC's Geovani Mendes made it 3-1 when he simply outclassed the defender marking him and hit a curling shot into the right side of the net. Décio Ortiz was left in no man's land by his defense there! Many of Zenit St Petersburg's supporters were seen to leave the ground early as it became clear their team was going to lose. Zenit St Petersburg may have spent more time on the ball, but Guaimim FC were more willing to take their chances and they walked away with the win.
