The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. The supporters of Piracununga booed when Locomotives was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 2 match minutes in a wonderful position. Frederico Vinhas didn't get a good kick on the ball. Chicão Capixaba made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Paulo Renato Sarmento in the 3rd minute of play. An unexpectedly hard shot by Paulo Renato Sarmento in the 5th minute of play forced Locomotives's goalkeeper Chicão Capixaba to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. After a defensive mix-up in Locomotives's zone, Leonel Goiano stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Chicão Capixaba came out of the goal and Leonel Goiano tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Paulo Renato Sarmento fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 10th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Chicão Capixaba having to interfere. Gugu Mattos received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 11th minute. Chicão Capixaba tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Gugu Mattos recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 15th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. After some careless play in the Piracununga defense, Nelson Novaes kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Angelo Abreu. The Piracununga fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Angelo Abreu should have stopped the shot. Gugu Mattos received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 24th minute. Chicão Capixaba tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. 26 minutes into the match, Francisco Brodel dribbled the ball past the defender and swiftly kicked the ball to the left of Angelo Abreu, 2-0. An unexpected shot in the 30th minute by Luizão Maranhense got the crowd on their feet, but to their dismay it went out on the left side. If Paulo Renato Sarmento had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 32nd minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. When Zézinho Correia fell near the penalty area in the 37th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Locomotives's protests and gave Zézinho Correia a yellow card for diving instead. 36 minutes into the game, one of Locomotives:s players got tackled near the goal, and the referee blew for a penalty. Chicão Capixaba had in the 39thth minute some difficulties stopping Kiko Proença's well aimed penalty as it nearly passed him on his left side, but he still managed to hold the ball. Angelo Abreu made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Francisco Brodel in the 43rd minute of play. The supporters of Piracununga booed when Locomotives was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 46 match minutes in a wonderful position. Nelson Novaes didn't get a good kick on the ball. All the noise was coming from the home fans when the whistle went for half-time. The home team had fought hardest to put themselves in a deserved lead.

The hometeam waved at the audience when it was time for Francisco Brodel to strike the kick off in the second half. Paulo Renato Sarmento received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 55th minute. Chicão Capixaba tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. If Gugu Mattos had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 58th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Chicão Capixaba took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Paulo Renato Sarmento, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Angelo Abreu made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Luizão Maranhense in the 61st minute of play. Chicão Capixaba made a fantastic save in the 64th minute, when Gugu Mattos sent off a good shot on target. 67 minutes into the match, Locomotives's goalkeeper Chicão Capixaba had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Gugu Mattos. Paulo Renato Sarmento fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 72nd minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Chicão Capixaba having to interfere. After 74 minutes, Francisco Brodel mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Locomotives and the Piracununga players grew even worse after the yellow card. After 74 played minutes Locomotives got a freekick which was hit by Francisco Brodel. Paulo Renato Sarmento received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 75th minute. Chicão Capixaba tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. After some fancy dribbling in the 85th minute, Paulo Renato Sarmento managed to get in a good position for a shot. Piracununga's supporters rose to their feet, but Paulo Renato Sarmento was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Chicão Capixaba breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. Angelo Abreu made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Frederico Vinhas in the 91st minute of play. Gugu Mattos fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 92nd minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Chicão Capixaba having to interfere. Gugu Mattos in the 95thth minute had a little luck and got a chance for a shot in front of the goal. Without hesitation aimed to the right of Chicão Capixaba, who managed to lunge to the right direction and made a save. Paulo Renato Sarmento might have been able to make a better finish in the 97th minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Chicão Capixaba. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Paulo Renato Sarmento ran back to his position shaking his head. The Locomotives players were eager to celebrate when the final whistle sounded. They had somehow managed to win, even though the away team had held the majority of the possession.
