Corinthians sp's Tony Freire proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 4th minute of the match, managed to save Corinthians sp from getting a goal against them. 6 minutes into the game, Natã Hoffmann threw the ball into play from the sideline. Corinthians sp's Emanuel Silva quickly snatched the ball and retained possesion. With a little luck, Corinthians sp's Tony Freire got control of the ball when Dinei Corrêa tried to sneak it across the goal line. A collision led to Corinthians sp getting a freekick after 10 minutes play. Nelson Cerezo hit a great ball. Gugu Recife sent away a hard shot on goal in the 13th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Davi Meireles received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 14th minute. Tony Freire tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. The supporters of Corinthians sp booed when Navegantes was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 18 match minutes in a wonderful position. Orlando Negri didn't get a good kick on the ball. Tony Freire made an important save on a dangerous shot by Davi Meireles in the 21st minute. An unexpectedly hard shot by Gugu Recife in the 22nd minute of play forced Navegantes's goalkeeper Lauro Barral to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Tony Freire made a fantastic save in the 24th minute, when Davi Meireles sent off a good shot on target. Tony Freire showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Orlando Negri in the 26th minute of the match. Corinthians sp's attentive Tiaguinho Recife managed to snatch the ball when Aníbal de Lima made a throw-in in the 30th minute of the game. When Tiaguinho Recife came up free with the goalie in the 31st minute, the Corinthians sp fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Tiaguinho Recife couldn't finish the play. When Nelson Cerezo fell near the penalty area in the 33rd minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Corinthians sp's protests and gave Nelson Cerezo a yellow card for diving instead. Nelson Cerezo hit a great freekick 34 minutes into the match. Nelson Cerezo took the ball and in the 47 minute, shot a rapid shot to the right of a surprised Lauro Barral. Lauro Barral dived to the right, and did manage to get a hand on the shot, but it still went into the right corner making it 0-1. Luck had favoured the away team in the first, and they walked off with a 0-1 lead.

When the second half was about to start, both teams quickly lined up and Nelson Cerezo made a kick off. After a rather tough play, Corinthians sp's Gugu Recife got a free kick in the 53rd minute. In the 61st match minute, Corinthians sp was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Nelson Cerezo to maneuver through the defense. Nelson Cerezo could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 67th minute of the match, but Lauro Barral made a huge save. After a defensive mix-up in Navegantes's zone, Gugu Recife stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Lauro Barral came out of the goal and Gugu Recife tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. 77 minutes into the match, Orlando Negri had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of Tony Freire. Corinthians sp's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Orlando Negri was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 2-1. Edmílson Leme kicked well hit freekick during the 81st minute of the match. Iuri Aguiar struck a weak shot in the 88th minute. Lauro Barral didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Corinthians sp. In the 90th minute, Natã Hoffmann hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Gugu Recife fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 92nd minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Lauro Barral having to interfere. The crowd rose to their feet as Corinthians sp's Nelson Cerezo slotted home a wonderful shot that went in to the left of Lauro Barral. That made the score 2-2 after 95 minutes of play. Lauro Barral made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Gugu Recife in the 98th minute of play. When the referee blew the final whistle, you could see the dissatisfaction in the Corinthians sp players' eyes. They were disappointed they hadn't taken more from the game.
