If Rodrigo Furlan had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 16th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Jairo Vidal in the 18th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Júlio de Medeiros saved Cotias EC from getting behind. Ramón Alcântara scored 0-1 in the 23rd match minute with a shot that went into the goal to the right of Júlio de Medeiros, who was just a little too slow in reacting to the shot. A collision led to Cotias EC getting a freekick after 26 minutes play. Renan Trigo hit a great ball. In the 27th minute of the match Amílton Queiroz shot from a long distance. The ball could have gone into the goal to the right of the goalkeeper, but Júlio de Medeiros showed his good shape when he easily got hold of the ball. After having played for 41 minutes, Giovani Baiano managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Cotias EC's supporters crossed their fingers, but Giovani Baiano was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. When Ramón Alcântara came up free with the goalie in the 45th minute, the Internacional F.C fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Ramón Alcântara couldn't finish the play. Even after changing tactics the home team jogged off the field with a 0-2 deficit. They would have to work harder if they wanted to turn things around in the second half.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Jairo Vidal to make the kick off. The audience thought a goal was coming when Ramón Alcântara got free with Júlio de Medeiros in the 56th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. But to his dismay, Ramón Alcântara quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 0-3. 79 minutes into the match, Ramón Alcântara notched a goal, 0-4, to the right of Cotias EC's Júlio de Medeiros.
