The Martelão FC fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Arlindo Santos should have stopped the shot. Toninho Figueiredo's late challenge caught a Tilápia fc's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Toninho Figueiredo helped the player get up and apologised. In the 20th minute, Toninho Figueiredo hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. In the 27th minute, Martelão FC's Dorival Fontes ran free of his marker and smoothly shot the ball into the goal behind Dedê Toscano. Dedê Toscano yelled at his defense, as they had left him out to dry. 1-2. Iuri Mendonça kicked well hit freekick during the 29th minute of the match. A collision led to Martelão FC getting a freekick after 32 minutes play. Jorginho Saldanha hit a great ball. Arlindo Santos showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Anísio Pena, who was totally free with the ball in the 33rd minute. Tilápia fc's Dedê Toscano played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Dorival Fontes in the 36th minute of play. If Jaime Velasco had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 40th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. A collision led to Martelão FC getting a freekick after 46 minutes play. Jorginho Saldanha hit a great ball. In the 48th minute the ball was on its way in behind Martelão FC's goalkeeper Arlindo Santos, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. The Martelão FC players were disheartened as they walked off the pitch after the first half. Tilápia fc were winning 1-2.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Dorival Fontes to make the kick off. Dedê Toscano took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Dorival Fontes, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. After a defensive mix-up in Tilápia fc's zone, Jorginho Saldanha stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Dedê Toscano came out of the goal and Jorginho Saldanha tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Dedê Toscano made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Dorival Fontes in the 59th minute of play. After 59 minutes, Dráusio Almeida mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Tilápia fc and the Martelão FC players grew even worse after the yellow card. After a rather tough play, Tilápia fc's Dráusio Almeida got a free kick in the 60th minute. Dedê Toscano showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Dorival Fontes in the 65th minute of the match. When the match clock showed 69 minutes, the score became 2-2 when Dorival Fontes sped through Tilápia fc's defense and sent away a curving shot that went into the net to the right of Dedê Toscano. 73 minutes had been played when some careless play by Tilápia fc's defense caused the ball to cross the line for a corner. Wanderson Mazza was slow to take the kick. During this time Martelão FC's players had a chance to rest.
