Seating: 1000, VIP seats: 0) The sun was shining, the grass was green and the audience cheered when Baltazar Paiva got the match started through his kick off. The audience thought a goal was coming when Zé Augusto de Godoi got free with Gonçalo Valle in the 4th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. Luiz Eduardo Barbosa received a nice pass, split the defenders, and ran untouched towards the goal. Gonçalo Valle came out and tried to block the shot, but Luiz Eduardo Barbosa slotted it home off the left post making it 1-0 in the 9th minute. When Luiz Eduardo Barbosa fell near the penalty area in the 12th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored SÃO PAULO F.C's protests and gave Luiz Eduardo Barbosa a yellow card for diving instead. After 12 played minutes SÃO PAULO F.C got a freekick which was hit by Luiz Eduardo Barbosa. If Baltazar Paiva had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 13th minute. The ball went over the crossbar instead. After a rather tough play, SÃO PAULO F.C's Rogério de Toledo got a free kick in the 15th minute. After 25 played minutes, Joviania's Delfim de Senna shot from a long distance, and at first it looked like the ball was going into the goal, but the goalkeeper Albertinho Costa came through and got his fingers on the ball before it flew over the goal line. He then quickly gripped the ball tighter before the forwards in Joviania reached it. 27 minutes into the match, SÃO PAULO F.C's goal looked a bit too open when Jorge Souto came free, but Albertinho Costa reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. After 29 minutes, Pedro Paulo Ramos mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the SÃO PAULO F.C and the Joviania players grew even worse after the yellow card. Pedro Paulo Ramos hit a great freekick 29 minutes into the match. In the 31st minute, Baltazar Paiva left the goalkeeper for dead before tapping the ball into the right side of the net. The Joviania fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 1-1. An unexpectedly hard shot by Pedro Paulo Ramos in the 41st minute of play forced Joviania's goalkeeper Gonçalo Valle to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Delfim de Senna took a chance and fired a shot far from the goal in the 42nd minute, but it turned out to be a dangerous situation for Albertinho Costa. SÃO PAULO F.C's goalkeeper really had to stretch himself to stop the ball from crossing the goal line. In the 46th minute of the match Delfim de Senna sent off a long shot with destination to the right of the goalkeeper, but Albertinho Costa skillfully saved the ball. Kauã de Amaral hit a great freekick 47 minutes into the match. Even after changing tactics the home team jogged off the field with a 1-2 deficit. They would have to work harder if they wanted to turn things around in the second half.
Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Amauri Lopes to make the kick off. Jorge Souto struck a weak shot in the 52nd minute. Albertinho Costa didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Joviania. After a rather tough play, Joviania's Laerte Alves got a free kick in the 59th minute. Baltazar Paiva received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 65th minute. Albertinho Costa tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Romeu Netto might have been able to make a better finish in the 66th minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Albertinho Costa. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Romeu Netto ran back to his position shaking his head. With his leg Albertinho Costa managed to avoid a goal in the 69thth minute, when Joviania's Baltazar Paiva fired away a shot with a lot of spin towards his right hand side. With 73 minutes on the clock, Delfim de Senna commited a dangerous tackle. The referee had no choice but to show him the red card. The referee blew the whistle for a penalty in the 72nd minute of the game. One of Joviania:s players had nearly got his shirt torn off by an opponent while getting free in front of SÃO PAULO F.C:s goal. Gonçalo Valle went to the wrong direction when Claudinho Massa was taking care of the penalty kick which however missed the goal. Gonçalo Valle showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Zé Augusto de Godoi in the 82nd minute of the match. Kauã de Amaral might have been able to make a better finish in the 84th minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Albertinho Costa. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Kauã de Amaral ran back to his position shaking his head. David Andrade sent away a hard shot on goal in the 86th minute, but the ball hit the crossbar and went out. A very good chance for a goal. Gonçalo Valle made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Pedro Paulo Ramos in the 88th minute of play. Gonçalo Valle showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Pedro Paulo Ramos, who was totally free with the ball in the 91st minute. An unexpectedly hard shot by Zé Augusto de Godoi in the 95th minute of play forced Joviania's goalkeeper Gonçalo Valle to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. After a defensive mix-up in SÃO PAULO F.C's zone, Jorge Souto stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Albertinho Costa came out of the goal and Jorge Souto tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play.
