The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. When Claudinho Massa came up free with the goalie in the 7th minute, the SÃO PAULO F.C fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Claudinho Massa couldn't finish the play. Wilton Recife made an important save on a dangerous shot by Zé Augusto de Godoi in the 11th minute. Gláuber Borges hit a great freekick 18 minutes into the match. 20 minutes into the match, Vermelhinha FC's goalkeeper Wilton Recife had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Zé Augusto de Godoi. Wilton Recife came out of the goal in the 23rd minute to try and stop a shot by SÃO PAULO F.C's Zé Augusto de Godoi. But to his dismay, Zé Augusto de Godoi quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 1-0. An unexpectedly hard shot by Amauri Lopes in the 28th minute of play forced Vermelhinha FC's goalkeeper Wilton Recife to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. With an all-out effort, SÃO PAULO F.C's Wilton Recife threw himself towards the right post 31 minutes into the match and grabbed hold of the ball from Amauri Lopes, which otherwise would have been placed in the net. The audience thought a goal was coming when Pedro Paulo Ramos got free with Wilton Recife in the 34th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. Wilton Recife was out of position in the 35 minute of play, and Amauri Lopes capitalized on the mistake with a soft shot into the goal. Amauri Lopes really showed his touch with that goal: 2-0. In the 43rd minute the ball was on its way in behind Vermelhinha FC's goalkeeper Wilton Recife, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. Vermelhinha FC's Gernando Passos got his second yellow card of the match in the 43rd minute. The referee ordered Gernando Passos off the ground. Gernando Passos kicked well hit freekick during the 44th minute of the match. The home fans were very happy to see their team leading 2-0 at half-time.

The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Zé Augusto de Godoi was the one to do the kick off. Pedro Paulo Ramos hit a great freekick 54 minutes into the match. Wilton Recife came out of the goal in the 60th minute to try and stop a shot by SÃO PAULO F.C's Zé Augusto de Godoi. But to his dismay, Zé Augusto de Godoi quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 3-0. In the 63rd minute, Zé Augusto de Godoi ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Wilton Recife was frozen by the shot and now it was 4-0. An unexpectedly hard shot by Zé Augusto de Godoi in the 76th minute of play forced Vermelhinha FC's goalkeeper Wilton Recife to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Wilton Recife took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Zé Augusto de Godoi, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. After 80 minutes, Elano Trevisan mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Vermelhinha FC and the SÃO PAULO F.C players grew even worse after the yellow card. Wilton Recife was not in position, and could only watch the ball fly in.
