Spectators: 7375 (Terracing: 5532, Seating: 1696, VIP seats: 147) Santo's Urtsin Verges started the match with a crisp pass. The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. Luisinho Pereira hit a great freekick 3 minutes into the match. A hard and well directed shot from Washington Esteves led 4 minutes into the game to a goal after the ball had bounced deceptively just in front of the goal. Santo's Beto Fantini became a little unsure and couldn't grip the ball before it was over the goalline. Thus it was 0-1. After a defensive mix-up in Esporte Clube FR's zone, Urtsin Verges stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Albertinho Botelho came out of the goal and Urtsin Verges tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. In the 12th minute, Paulo José Pires reached a very good position and smashed the ball with a huge effort into the net, just to the left of Albertinho Botelho. The goal made the score 1-1. Paulo José Pires received a nice pass, split the defenders, and ran untouched towards the goal. Albertinho Botelho came out and tried to block the shot, but Paulo José Pires slotted it home off the left post making it 2-1 in the 15th minute. Urtsin Verges fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 17th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Albertinho Botelho having to interfere. After a rather tough play, Esporte Clube FR's Narciso Bertassi got a free kick in the 22nd minute. Albertinho Botelho made a fantastic save in the 23rd minute, when Guto Vidal sent off a good shot on target. Urtsin Verges struck a weak shot in the 26th minute. Albertinho Botelho didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Santo. Urtsin Verges blasted a shot towards the goal in the 31st minute, but the shot hit the top of the crossbar and went out without Albertinho Botelho having to make a save. In the 36th minute, Paulo José Pires got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. Santo's Paulo José Pires got a good chance for a goal in the 37th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. 37 minutes into the match, Paulo José Pires notched a goal, 3-1, to the right of Esporte Clube FR's Albertinho Botelho. Albertinho Botelho was clearly disgusted with the effort of the defense and let the defenders know about it. If Paulo José Pires had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 41st minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Celso Godoi's late challenge caught a Santo's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Celso Godoi helped the player get up and apologised. After a rather tough play, Esporte Clube FR's Celso Godoi got a free kick in the 43rd minute. In the 45th minute Urtsin Verges shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Albertinho Botelho saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. The away team players looked dejected as the walked off the pitch at half time. They had fought hard, but were still losing 3-1.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Gilberto Marquez to make the kick off. In the 52nd minute, Horácio Cruz made a precise shot to the right of Albertinho Botelho. Esporte Clube FR's defense was at fault, and the scoreboard reflected the new score, 4-1. Santo's Horácio Cruz got a good chance for a goal in the 56th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Paulo José Pires recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 59th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. Washington Esteves hit a great freekick 62 minutes into the match. Paulo José Pires sent away a hard shot on goal in the 65th minute, but the ball hit the crossbar and went out. A very good chance for a goal. Urtsin Verges received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 70th minute. Albertinho Botelho tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. A collision led to Santo getting a freekick after 71 minutes play. Edinho Queiroz hit a great ball. Albertinho Botelho showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Horácio Cruz in the 76th minute of the match. Urtsin Verges sent away a hard shot on goal in the 77th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Albertinho Botelho made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Paulo José Pires in the 79th minute of play. Dedê Meireles's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Albertinho Botelho read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 82nd minute of play. If Horácio Cruz had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 84th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. After a rather tough play, Esporte Clube FR's Hortêncio Pinheiro got a free kick in the 86th minute. Albertinho Botelho took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Paulo José Pires, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. In the 88th minute, Urtsin Verges made a precise shot to the right of Albertinho Botelho. Esporte Clube FR's defense was at fault, and the scoreboard reflected the new score, 5-1. Paulo José Pires sent away a hard shot on goal in the 91st minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Esporte Clube FR's Albertinho Botelho played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Paulo José Pires in the 95th minute of play. When the referee ended the match the Santo players were able to celebrate. They had won a fair victory and recieved the ovations of their fans.
